By Emily & Harrison Myers*
Red is the color of an angry face,
Red is the color of a loved ones trace.
Red is the color of wood burning bright,
The color of bravery, the color of fright.
The mark a soldier leaves behind,
The thing his friends will have to find.
All this and only a color,
RED.
*Harrison is my little brother, he is in 5th grade. I'm in 8th grade.

My Favorite Place
My Favorite Place

The smell of pizza baking in a hot stone oven,
The fact that I can hear the cook
Rolling out the dough for the next lucky customer,
The table next to us laughing about who knows what,
The taste of Pollo ala Grigila
More commonly known as,
Grilled chicken, garlic mashed potatoes and green beans
Melting in my mouth.
why not love?

By Emily Myers
Endless warnings,
All ignored.
Irrational thoughts,
Reassured.
It will all be okay,
It will all be fine,
Please for me ignore the signs.
You were right,
At least until,
The happiness paused,
And the love was still.
Little white lies,
Caused angered cries.
And soft whispers of I love you,
Were not returned with I love you too

life as a chessboard
LIFE AS A CHESSBOARD
by Emily Myers
My life is like a chessboard,
Every move carefully planned.
But I want to venture out of the black and white,
Into a foreign land,
Where the pawns all sing a melody,
So sweet and so mesmerizing,
And the bishops join in harmony,
Creating a song so synchronizing,
It’s color that I see.

ODE TO THE TEACHERS

Please let us have some input,
It’s us that has to deal.
Please don’t make your mind,
As unbendable as a piece of steel.
You can’t just make the rules,
and expect us to follow,
without asking, why?
Or feeling a little sorrow.
It’s not fair to us for you to command.
It’s not just you who roams this land
You, You, You, if you want respect,

AWAY

Life is still, I am moving,
Your ship is anchored, mine is cruising.
I wait for you, but you’re just to slow
You will never catch up, that I know.
I plug my ears, to block out the fears,
Of those around me, and those a head
The sun rises up and I am lead,
Away.
a soft winter
A SOFT WINTER
by Emily Myers
Snow covers the ground,
The wind the only sound.
The snow is like a blanket
Keeping the grass warm.
Glistening over hills,
Sitting on window sills.
The trees have white drapes,
And only hints of green.
The birds have all left,
The weather was to mean,
But I still stand, frozen as a statue,
In this sullen lullaby,
Of soft winter virtue.
greed
GREED
by Emily Myers
Ragged clothes, and dirty faces,
Leaving such unwanted traces,
On the designer clothes and expensive laces,
Of the people who take it all.
Give the rich more, ignore the poor.
Sneering expressions,
Bad first impressions
Bulldoze their house, and build me my mall,
because you are big and they are small.
Don’t sign their book on the national tour,
but what for?
we are a team
We pull into the parking lot where the meet is being held.
Hair tightly wrapped into a bun, bobby pinned to perfection
Leotard and warm up suit fitting perfectly to our thin conditioned bodies.
We warm up and visualize, skip, will I stick my dismount?
Run, will I make my twist?
Split, will I place?
We march in, a perfect line.
“North Stars Gymnastics,” the announcer calls,
The Escape (short story)
Molly lay in her dirty cell contemplating whether she should do it or not. She had spent 4 of her 13 years here. She was more than ready to leave. Would it make her her happy floating on a cloud 8 year old self again? Probably not, but it would get her closer. Other questions were racing through her mind way over the speed limit. Would she get caught? What would happen to her afterward?
