Tapping Feet

Tapping Feet

By Lindsey LeBeau
Rice Memorial High School, Grade 9

Tap tap tap,
my pencil slid across my paper.
Tippity tap,
it felt like an earthquake.
Stomp stomp,
Was it ever going to end?
Tap tap tap,
It echoed throughout the room, bouncing off the walls.
Tippity tap,
It was like a constant irritating sound that was never going to go away!

I looked around the room to see what it was.
Tap.
I circled the room, turning in my seat.
Tap.
Where was this aggravating sound coming from?

Then I looked down... Tap.
The boy next to me was tapping his foot!
Tap.
His whole desk was shaking, as well as the desks around him, including mine!
Tap.
His knees were banging against the bottom.
Tap.Bang.Tap.
He was obviously nervous about the test.
Tap.Bang.Tap.
He looked around as if the answers could have been written on the walls.
Tap...tap...tap...tap...tap...

I turned back to my test, trying to focus
...
Okay, what was the French word for shirt?
...
Chemise! That's it!
...
Wait a second...my desk isn't shaking!
...
He stopped tapping his foot!
...
Finally
...
Silence.
