Infinity

mixedmusic333's picture

There’s something about slamming
into a wall repeatedly that
hurts. My shoulders are bruised
and the inside of my head is
mangled like someone’s been
suffocating me too long. I’m
slamming into this wall to
get out, or maybe I’m trying to
stay in. Maybe I’ve done
it a thousand times before and can’t
know how to do
anything else; I’ll do it infinitely,
this slamming, forever
plus some. Sometimes I can’t
tell.

There’s something about the
word “infinity” that’s daunting. Infinity
is as high as we go;
children seem to be the only
to do the unthinkable
in that
intense moment of
childlike passion where the
one child says to another,
“Infinity and
one!”

If infinity is a cycle, I’ve got
to break it. If infinity is
the sagging clothesline in the
backyard, I’ve got to
straighten it. Or if infinity is
something else, it needs
to be nothing because

I’m tired and I’m beat and I’m
not sure why. My vision’s been
slanted lately, but
maybe that’s not just
me.

I’m not generally a follower,
but in all honesty,
I’ve been losing time
lately.

I need it back.

I’ve been spending more time
as a guest lately,
and less time as myself.

And I need it back…

So this isn’t saying
goodbye, really, because

It’s not like that.
Not exactly.

I'm taking a break for a while.

(This is probably not exactly surprising since I seem to be following a pattern. I doubt I'm gone for good, however. Autumn holds great promise and YWP has been--and continues to be--amazing.)

See you all on the flip side,
MM

Breaks are good...

I understand the sentiment. I looked at a calendar the other day and realized I've taken one full week's of vacation since July 2006.

Take a deep breath. And come back. Come back.

cheers
gg

SOMEBODY! ANYBODY!

oh no, please tell me what's going on here? i haven't had time to get on for a while, and from the looks of gg's post on the homepage, YWP's been chaotic lately. what's up?

SnowStars's picture

things have been a bit crazy.

Some have gotten mad over short, pointless posts, but the main thing is just that lots of people feel YWP has changed, or their lives have changed. Alot of people are leaving, decreasing use, or taking breaks.
It is not the end of the site as we know it, though.

miss_literal's picture

which posts? i need to read

which posts? i need to read comments to catch up...

SnowStars's picture

Try about 4 or 5 pages back-

Once you catch up more, you'll understand.
Do you know have many people are taking breaks?

miss_literal's picture

of mm's poems? i don't know,

of mm's poems?
i don't know, looks like
mm and
obscure
but that's just what ive seen in the past few minutes.

It seems less like "leaving"

It seems less like "leaving" and more like a lot of people are just going in different directions right now. It's a pretty busy time of year now, anyway.

true.

:) I agree.

SnowStars's picture

no, they weren't the ones people were mad at.

It was more the sort of IMish ones that got people upset, like when there were lots in a row.
There was also one inflamatory post that made people mad.
You'll see.

miss_literal's picture

please show me.....who and

please show me.....who and where and what posts?

SnowStars's picture

ok...

just a minute. I will update this when I find them.
:)one sec...

Ok, here goes: the main post that angered several people got deleted, I think, but it is discussed in the YWP forum on site improvement posted by gg, near the end of the comments.
Some of the short and pointless poetry resides on pages 3 and 4.
Aside from MM, AwsmPossum, Usagi, (check out "End", page 1), Imagine, ParisianTwist, and maybe Obscure_One have left or taken breaks. This approximate; I don't know for sure.
Another description of the situation is in emotive.eleven's most recent post "So Eden..."

Keep in mind that this isn't the end of the world, I am merely filling you in on what has happened... you did ask!
Hopefully you won't regret it!
I think things will resolve, we just need to move forward.

UPDATE! also DreamSprite's most recent piece :)
