strange dream

Strange dream
swallowed by the desire
that pushes its way up my throat
and out of my mouth pours my cracked
raspy voice
calling to the ends of the world
with a tune the rest of society has forgotten
the beat of a heart
that's run miles from the predator that hunts them down
the song of a surprised bird
fear running down your spine with every note
the voice of the trees
their leaves rattling in the heavy air
rain on my tongue
you can taste the coming storm
and as i close my mouth
as look up at the sky
the water streaking down my dirty face
and drenching my torn clothes
as i open my mouth once more
to hungrily gulp down the liquid that pours from the sky
as i stand in this field of wilted grass
everything shatters
like a hammer to the mirror in the bathroom
and i lurch out of my sheets
the birds peeping outside my window
the first light of day falling through my shades
onto my bare toes.

    Looming over your shoulders

Each stack higher than its former

    Every thought and every scrap

Of an idea too scared to ponder

    Every moment that hurt

    Each minute that lingered longer

  • Inadequacy

How do I push the words out
    From behind my taffy tongue
    Thick with salty tears
    And full of grubby thumb

    I’m a child
    Pretending that I’m numb
    To escape the overwhelming feelings

    Why

When feet fall soft but quick

    Does the hallway extend

And the hot breath of whoever’s behind me feel hotter

Why do I stay pressed to the wall

    Like a stubborn gruby sticker
