Counting Colors, Part VI (end)

After Will left Monday, I drove back to the fair site where The Big Dipper was. I was so completely wrong when I thought I could be with him anytime. That was probably my last time to really be with him, maybe ever. It was raining, but I could still tell on my cheeks what was rain and what were tears. Remembering the trick, I said to myself, Purple, green, red, blue…yellow. Yellow? Coming to my senses, I focused my watery eyes on the cars Will and I had painted so carefully the last three weeks. On all the cars, connecting in a perfect line, was a bright yellow stripe I could see clearly through the rain and my tears.
Our relationship had become a rollercoaster ride, having fun at the beginning with only some scary parts where we had to hold onto each other and hope for the best. It got so interesting and crazy and fun that we wanted to go on it over and over again, but that second ride just made us feel sick. The end was that plunge where you feel you’re never going to come back up. But somehow, miraculously, you do, and never take the sunshine for granted again.
