Over the edge....

Folks,

Recently we had to remove several posts and comments that were totally inappropriate. Interestingly, other young writers using this site brought these posts to our attention almost immediately. We have been proud of the way students have respected each other on this site. We are pleased that both adults and students brought the posts to our attention -- quickly. And we took care of them.

It's time, I guess, for a reminder that this site is based on treating each other with respect and civility. This is not the place for profanity, violence or threats. It is not a place for intolerance or uncivil discourse.

We never like the prospect of unpublishing someone, but it is important that we all work on maintaining an atmosphere of trust and civility. If you feel like you will be treated with respect, if you feel the participants treat each other with respect, you will be more apt to share.

Not to say you can't write about edgy topics, but just keep it civil.

Thanks,
gg

I agree. Some of my friends were on this site, and I think that is to whom you are referring. They... don't understand how personally this site affects some of us. They just don't understand.

This is a month old, about something else entirely.

But the current flood of im'ers is an issue as well.

Not really...

...You are correct that the original post was a month ago, but the problem arose recently. Thanks to everyone for pointing out uncivil, disrespectful and intolerant work. We will persist in maintaining this site civil.

Notice how

Notice how the IMers rarely return? They're usually middle-school students introduced to the site by teachers, and they evidently don't understand that though it's possible to chat here, that doesn't make it appropriate. Perhaps the teachers should say something beforehand to that effect. Or at least have them write first, maybe to a prompt, so they'll have something to post.

Yeah

The people in my class where probably on it just to be funny. Not taking it seriously. Not thinking that most of peoples personal thoughts and feeling are on this.

Like MY feelings that could be easily mocked by people trying to be cool or people who just don't understand. (I am not suicidal)
