Junior High Rocks
Alice woke up to the sound of her dogs barking. She took a shower, got dressed, and came down to eat breakfast. “Are you excited about the last day of school?” asked Penny, her mother. Alice replied, ”I can’t wait until summer starts!” Alice finished eating and getting herself together. She climbed on the bus saying, “this will be the best summer ever!” School was a blast. The students got to play all day and then later prepare for their graduation from Rose Elementary. That night Alice and her family went out to the local Applebee’s to celebrate. Alice decided that she was going to work hard this summer, but not too hard. She had been placed in advanced math and French. The next couple of days were spent cleaning out her spaces of this past year’s school supplies and buying her workbooks for the summer. She got right to work, and it only took her two weeks to complete both. The family went on their regular vacation to Cape Cod during the last week of June. Everyone had a great time when they went fishing, and Alice especially loved the shopping at the Market. She got a Cape Cod t-shirt and a beige hat. The trip lasted four days. When they arrived home, Henry, Alice’s dad looked like a lobster from head to toe. Every afternoon in July she went to the pool with her friends. She also went to theatre camp. She loved it so much that she decided to sign up for it next year. One day, they took their dogs to their backyard pond, and the dogs got soaked. The rest of the summer was spent hanging with friends and buying supplies for the upcoming year. One week before school started, Rose Junior High had its open house, which is an introduction to the school for the incoming seventh graders. Alice thought that was really helpful. She practiced her routine for night/morning routine. The night before the last day of school she played with all of her dogs. Sleepy was expecting puppies any day, and Alice spent as much time as possible with her. She got up in the morning, and the dogs were running around like crazy. They knew something big was happening, but they didn’t know what. Alice did her perfect morning routine, which ended up being the same as last year, and got on her bus just in time. When she got off, she accidentally slipped on the wet pavement. Current eighth graders and seventh grade teachers brought them to their first class. Alice’s first class was French. The teacher was really nice and let them watch a Madeline movie. Science was next. That’s when they got all the information they needed, along with their planners. Lunch was pizza that was slightly burned and chocolate cake. Life skills were fun because Alice got to learn how to make her favorite smoothies. Her last class of the day was computer skills, where she got to show off her knowledge of the internet. She decided she wanted a laptop after learning how cool they are. When she went home, she did the little homework she had and enjoyed the rest of the afternoon. Her dad inquired how her day went expecting a,” fine.” Alice gleefully exclaimed,” It was the first best day ever.” She couldn’t wait for the rest of her seventh grade year.
