Sleepy's Capture

Alice was just packing for her trip to California, when Flash jumped up on the bed and almost pushed her off. She just smiled and said, “Flash you are so funny.” As she dragged her bag down her steep stairs, she saw Chase running after Dizzy. Just then, Flash bumped into Dizzy and went out of control; he hit the table that the $500 vase was sitting on. Quickly, Alice dropped her things and caught it just in time and placed it back on the table. Afterwards, she checked on Spike who was getting slapped on the face by Sting’s fierce tail. That’s when she saw Barker yapping at Sleepy and Bear to get up. She broke it up and went into the living room to get books. There, she saw Fero biting Flop’s ears and Connie growling at the woman on television. Alice turned off the TV so that the madness would stop. She got the books that she needed, refilled the food and water bowls, and called the neighbor to look after them. Then she rushed out the door, put everything in, shut the car door, and her family drove off. Minutes later they returned because Alice had forgotten her suitcase. She rushed inside as all the puppies went running out with Kim; she just laughed and went to get the case. After that, they drove off and we’re headed to the airport. The neighbor came over only to find no trace of the pups. First she called the police, but they hadn’t seen them; then she called up the dog pound and sure enough they were found roaming in the alleys. After she picked them up, she fed them, and took them out to play. Then she made their beds, tucked them in, said good night and went upstairs to sleep. At 11 pm she thought she heard a crash and she shot up and rushed downstairs. It turns out that there wasn’t one, but just to be safe, she got a pillow and blanket, and slept down there. The next day, they played tug-o-war, which Sleepy won. Then she turned the TV to channel 14 so they could watch FAMILY FEUD. Suddenly, the dogs started barking. She put them in the bedroom and said, “Now stop barking and I’ll let you out in a couple of minutes; they did as they were told. After dinner, she decided to sleep in a bedroom that was closer to the puppies; when she was snoring away, a dreadful thing happened. Apparently, Kim’s old owner had discovered the puppies and wanted them. At the crack of dawn, he snuck into the house and attempted to steal all the dogs. His task was almost complete when Kim’s barking woke up the dog sitter. He ran out, but all he got away with was Sleepy; she was fast asleep. The police were notified, but the man was too fast for them, and he was not heard from. Three days later, he called the house and threatened that if she ever wants to see Sleepy again, then she must bring the dogs to him. At 2 pm, she drove to his house (with the dogs), unaware of the trap that was set. Upon arrival, she stepped out of the car, retrieved the dogs and knocked on the door. He let them in, and told her to put the dogs in a room off to the side. Ten minutes later he had trapped the dogs, and shoved the lady into a room. Little did he know there was a secret exit between the rooms. She found it, and escaped into the hall. There was only three other doors in that part of the house, and she checked for Sleepy without success. She realized that Sleepy must be hidden elsewhere, where no one can go but him. She quietly placed the dogs in the car, and snuck into the only other door; his bedroom. She saw Sleepy and snagged her, then darted straight for his door and ran out. She flew to the car and drove off. A couple hours later, he showed up at their house again; he was demanding to have all the puppies and Kim be returned to him. She claimed, “The family that lives in this house helped her get through labor twice. She belongs to them;” he argued. She told him that the family was coming back in two days and to deal with them. When the Smith family came back after seven days of vacation, the neighbor told them the whole story. They called up the man; he arrived two hours later. They talked about the situation and finally had an idea. He would get to keep Kim and five puppies; they would keep the other seven. As Alice was walking out of the kitchen with some tea, she saw a piece of paper in the man’s jacket. She pulled it out and opened it. What she saw was the plan to get rid of the puppies, sell Kim to a breeder, and make fur coats out of Kim’s future babies. She sped into the family room - almost tripping over Sleepy. Her mom said, "What’s the rush, Alice;” she shoved the paper into her mother’s hands. Alice explained that she found it on the floor; they were outraged. They threatened him that if he came to their house again, that they would arrest him for trespassing and stealing; he told them that if they charged him for that, he would charge them for stealing his dog. Since they couldn’t agree, they went to court. The next day, when they were presenting to the court, Alice was the first one questioned; the Jury went in the back to discuss it and found him guilty. All ownership was given to the Smiths, at which they cheered. That Christmas, they were enjoying opening presents when they found one that was sent to Kim and the puppies; it was postmarked form the county jail. It contained 12 new leashes, 13 beef jerky strips, 12 assorted toys for the pups, and a note. The note was from the old owner, and explained that he was sorry for even thinking of the plan. He also said merry Christmas, and that he hopes that they all grow up to reach their full potential. On December 26th, the next day, they brought Kim and the puppies on their new leashes to the jail. They asked for him and about five minutes later, he came out; he had a very surprised face on. He socialized with them, and the Smiths said that he was welcome any time (except night time) to come over and play with the dogs and have a cup of tea; he loved the idea. After his sentence in the joint was over, he started coming over and having a great time, knowing that it was a good thing that the plan didn’t succeed.
