Simplicity and Tradition

The leaves rustle as I step on the wooden bridge leading to a covered forest. A bird swoops down to reach a berry making the simplest sound but creating a rustle in the bush. Vermont surrounds itself around a cloud of green leaves and a touch of tradition. Though it is seen sometimes at its worst during certain months, it draws visitors from around the world, from its warm colors in the autumn to the white powdery mountains. The state’s natural beauty and traditional surroundings captivate all.
My passion for history allows me to imagine the environment of Vermont as if it was back in time. The wooden bridges and old houses recreate a time long ago as the deep forests surround them. When the colonies in America were forming, life was much simpler and centered around the land. Bringing my mind back to that period in the 1700s makes me feel at peace with the autumn season and forests that supported colonists.
Vermont is known for its colorful fall that will draw tourists from everywhere to see the changing leaves. Though the season earns much of Vermont’s finances, having these perfect representations of the changing of the year makes me feel at home and in a simple place. The cracking of the leaves and the cooling temperatures characterizes my season of field hockey. I always expect these changes in my surroundings as I hit the hockey ball with my stick and travel with the team on a yellow school bus, matching the leaves around us. The leaves and colorful environment will always remind me of my home and have shaped my memories of school life.
As the year gets colder, snowfall occurs to create the perfect area for the holiday weeks. The snow and silent snow storms is always soothing when it is completely dark out and the holiday lights twinkle. With the natural environment of Vermont, it is sure to fulfill my fantasy of a white Christmas. During winter vacation when the snow is piling on the ground, I always spend time with my family playing games and opening presents. The season will always remind me of times with my family as the snow falls silently.
Vermont has continued to retain its tradition and beautiful landscapes. I enjoy the historical setting of Vermont and its beautiful landscape. When I return home to Vermont during college, I will always remember the memories of history and seasons. The characteristics of my home state are a source of reliability for me, knowing the seasons will come in time for traditions. Vermont has always retained these historical and natural features as a symbol of home.
