Vermont
What do I love about Vermont? Well, that’s easy… I love many things here, but there are two that are my favorite. I love our beautiful four seasons we get to experience, with our different four seasons, you go from snow, to mud, to green grass and to leaves that cover the ground. Each season has its own good qualities and bad. Also, I love the small community here in Fairfield where you know practically everyone you see. Every person you pass, they seem as if they are a relative because they know you so well. They normally ask “How’d your game go last night?” or “When is your next game so I can cheer you on?”
Unlike many states, Vermont has four very different seasons. I like them all, but fall is my favorite. This is because of the beautiful leaves that consist of brilliant colors of orange, yellow, red, and green that light up our roadsides and mountains. Soon winter is here and the warm days are gone. The temperature is getting into the low teens. I wake up to a sheet of white falling from the sky. The first thing I do is sprint downstairs, turn on the television and cross my fingers that Fairfield Center School comes up on the screen. SNOWDAY!! I bundle up for the cold weather and head outside on a mission. I make snowmen, snow angels, go sliding, and spend all day outside. I love the snow. Plus, what would we do without a white Christmas? Before I know it, winter is gone and the hope of snow days are gone too. Spring is here, the snow is almost all melted and

everyone is preparing for sugaring. The get all their buckets hung, pipeline checked and horses ready. Many people can’t wait for spring here in Fairfield, because of what comes
with it, sugaring. Now spring has disappeared and summer is here. The temperature is in the 80’s and muggy. The best part about summer is school vacation. During the nice warm, sunny days we go camping and spend most of the time outside , at the pool, soaking up the sun. What a difference from the below zero weather and snow. I wouldn’t be able to have all four seasons the same. I would need a break. That’s why I love the variety of weather here in Vermont.
Luckily, Vermont is very little so you get to know the community you live in very well. Here in Fairfield, the little bakery called Chester’s is my favorite spot. They make homemade bread, muffins, cookies, and everything else you can think of, with the best homemade pizza every Friday night. The ladies in Chester’s treat you as if you are family. I love that they have five pairs of reading glasses on the window sill for those who forget their own. At our home softball games, we get a crowd of community members who come and support us even though they don’t have a relative on the team. This is really special to me to know our community cares about us so much, I really appreciate it. Not only is our community there for each other at sports events, barn raisings, and fund raisers but they are also there for each other during sugaring. Many people help each other gather sap. The best part is you are welcome at any sugar house you want to stop at. You visit for awhile and they give you a fresh, hot cup of just made

syrup, Yum! The closeness of our small community is what I think separates us from others and why I love Vermont so much.
The four distinct seasons and our little community are the reasons I love where I live here in Vermont. There are not many communities around, where you know everyone you see and feel as if you are part of a great big family. I know that from experience. When we went to New York City everyone was pushy and grumpy. Luckily, not here in Fairfield.
