Vermont

Vermont is a wonderful place. However some of the people are even more amazing. most of those amazing Vermonters have a lot of character. Let me tell you about a few things that Vermonters value. about let me tell what the most important thing is to me about Vermont and how growing up in Vermont has affected my life and outlook.

To be a Vermonter it means you are most likely to be neighborly because you know your neighbors. You are close to each other and can rely on them in hard times. also means you can go to barn raisings and help your neighbors. During wars Vermonters always have been known for their toughness in action. Vermont is also known for its conservation of supplies. Vermonters are also known for their old covered bridges which many people are trying hard to restore. also our green mountains. Vermonters are also known for their scenic views which bring a lot of turrets to Vermont, also the fall foliage, and the winter skiing with brings a lot of skiers to Vermont. In the spring Vermont is known for its maple sugaring, definitely the famous mud season which is a time when a lot of people get stuck. Then in the summertime we are known for the green meadows which often have cows in them, cows in the pastures eating grass waiting to get milked, also we are known for our rolling hills. Vermont has been called the second Ireland and especially Fairfield. Maybe that’s why my ancestors decided to settle here from their home across the Sea.

The one thing I would change about Vermont is the growing number of homes on former farm lands especially by those who don’t appreciate the valuable resources of farm lands particularly meadows. When they build the people that are building the house and the people that are going to live in it always picture it when it is finished not the valuable farmland that they are taking away, Then when they take away farmland they take away food for the farm animals then when they do that the farmers have to downsize then when they have to downsize they get less milk then the consumers have a lot less milk.

If I could live here in ten years I would because I enjoy the privacy and helpful neighbors I have here in Vermont. I also enjoy the maple sugaring and farming here in Vermont. I enjoy all the outdoor options I have here in Vermont. I really like the old fashioned barn raisings we have here in Vermont. I like the small towns in Vermont with their own post offices. I like how there is still some farmland left open in Vermont for the farmers and the future farmers to farm and make their living with the land.
The most important thing to me about living in Vermont is the maple sugaring. I love maple sugaring because you can be out in the woods tapping the trees and gathering the sap, and then boiling the sap down to syrup. Yum! That is my favorite part about sugaring- drinking the maple syrup we made in the spring on vanilla ice cream, on pancakes, and in cooking in the middle of the winter time and in the summer when we

aren’t able to make maple syrup.

Growing up in Vermont has affected my life because otherwise I would not be able to go sugaring . Then I would not be able to drink maple syrup unless I wanted to pay the very high expense of real maple syrup or I could drink that horrible fake stuff. Also I would be able to work on the farm and feed the cute little baby calves. I look forward to Vermont continuing to be healthy and green to support the maple trees and farm lands. This way Vermont can continue producing farm fresh milk and Vermont gold (maple syrup).

In conclusion , I value what it means to be a Vermonter, I wish all Vermonters would value these issues, I wish all Vermonters would respect the open farmland, rolling hills, and changing trees, What is the most important thing to you in Vermont, I hope to still be here in ten years living and working here with the land. Growing up in Vermont has affected my life because I love Vermont and the values of Vermonters.
