I believe...
I know I already posted this elsewhere, but it seems appropriate for this forum.
I believe...
I. In the absolute sanctity of life.
II. In letting nature take its course.
III. In living in the present and letting energy flow, which aligns one with natural energy and all that is good in the world.
IV. In exercising the mind as vigorously as we exercise the body, and vice versa.
V. In taking a good long look at what we really need and what we don’t.
VI. In taking risks, particularly in art. One shouldn’t try to offend, but rather understand that nothing is uncontroversial in this world, and anything of value will be disputed. You will offend certain people, especially if you are an artist of some kind, and they will likely offend you. See it as an opportunity for growth.
VII. In non-partisanship, a.k.a letting the best man win.
VIII. In the Open and Empty Doctrine, which states that the best way to live is to be aware of all forces acting on you (open), and to rid yourself of unnecessary mental and emotional clutter (empty). Probably the most basic concept of Taoism.
IX. In optimism. Pessimism is unseemly, particularly in the young –our generation has more to live for than any other ever has. Be enthusiastic! Don't muddle yourself about whether or not you were meant to be here, just enjoy the fact that you are. :D
X. In being aware of oneself and one’s own actions, and examining them before placing blame on others. Everything is interconnected, united by the crucial life force, and you have a much bigger part to play than you know.
XI. In surrounding oneself with as much juicy literature and other soul-enhancing art forms as one can, while minimalizing more passive forms of entertainment as much as possible.
XII. In avoiding “isms” and rigorous codes as much as possible, and doing what is right in the moment.
XIII. In knowing each ingredient in each and every thing you put into your mouth, and in making sure all of them can be traced back to nature with minimal steps.
XIV. In using as few electronic devices as is possible. All those electromagnetic fields truly interfere with one’s brain waves. Use your computer…but not while listening to your iPod AND talking on your cell phone AND checking your BlackBerry. The minute you feel your head starting to spin, you’ve gone too far.
XV. In cultivating quality relationships, in nurturing them richly, and in letting love flow as harmoniously and freely as possible (another precept of Taoism).

II. In letting nature take
II. In letting nature take its course.
Do you mean that if someone grows ill we shouldn't attempt to heal them? sure everyone dies, but should a six year old with cancer just be ignored, written off as a victim of nature, and let to die? Or should we still be fighting for ways to cure her, for ways to save her. I believe that as life is the most basic and valuable of all our natural human rights we should always be trying to preserve it. If that means fighting the will of nature then so be it. But I do not believe that it could be the course or the will of nature for the innocent to die young.
though something controversial that comes from this point is immortality. Is it right? or is it interfering with nature. I don't really know my opinion yet. I'll come back to that point.
Dear President Obama,
There is a reason Life came before Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. You can't have them if you were never born.

Special:
I don't believe that fighting for one's life is letting nature take its course. However, Taoism teaches that over-attachment leads to failure and dismay. The Tao, or natural energy, is spontaneously beneficial, and it can do miraculous things when left to flow on its own. If we cloud it with fear and desperate clinging to life, it becomes stagnant, and the very thing we fear will happen: The child will die of cancer. In trusting that natural energy will help you, you have to relax and allow it to happen. Is that clearer? Maybe I should have phrased it differently...

That actually does clear it up. I understand your positions even though I don't agree with them absolutely. One thing I do not fully comprehend is Taoism. What is it? A religion?

Taoism is an ancient Eastern
Taoism is an ancient Eastern religion. It is the most basic form of Buddhism, and is more or less the same as Buddhism, although in my opinion Buddhism is more dogmatic. I am a practicing Taoist, as is my family. I'd be happy to explain it in more detail sometime, if you're ever interested.

As a response to number XIV, I would like to introduce you to...

"Voodoo Science" by Robert Park. You can't read the specific chapter there thanks to Google Books, but I suggest reading chapter 7, Currents of Fear.
Although I agree on limiting one's use of technology, being physically affected by their 'radiation' is myth and just isn't scientifically plausible.
Thanks, Geist. It looks
Thanks, Geist. It looks interesting, and I need something to read.
About the "radiation" -that wasn't what I had meant at all. I agree that that is totally implausible, and major effects such as cancerous growths won't come of technology. However, it is true that being surrounded by two many electromagnetic currents can make one light-headed. Many devices, such as microwaves and even iPods, can interfere with pacemakers. If pacemakers align themselves with the currents of one's body to produce heartbeats, who's to say too many machines couldn't interfere with us?

True!
I just read an article about there actually being studies on slight numbers of radation coming out of the back of cell phones, that I will try to find. Apparently cell phone affects bees and that's a connected study..

A cellphone's EM waves are
A cellphone's EM waves are not nearly powerful enough to affect or even be absorbed into the membrane of a living cell. They are nothing more than radio waves, that's it, and considering their power relative to the other waves in the EM spectrum, they are absolutely minuscule.
You might want to nab that book, too. Very informative to those interested in 'popular science'.
Like someone else mentioned...
I think stem cell reasearch could help us in the future. I know that at the other end of the spectrum, people would probably say "That's wrong," and go on to explain why, but why not use everything to the best of our abilities? The one dead baby that scientists might use to reasearch embryonic stem cells, could lead to protecting so many more babies in the future! here is the offical site for stem cell reasearch, and there is even a link for the ethics of stem cell reasearch. http://stemcells.nih.gov/index.asp

Beliefs?
To be human is to make mistakes.
There are few things crueler than hindsight.
As Douglas Adams said, “Whatever happens, happens.” There is no predetermined destiny; nothing is meant to be. It just is.
But that doesn’t necessarily mean it should.
Humanity is capable of great horror and destruction but also of great beauty, and an admirable goal of life is to make sure the latter exceeds the former.
Identity is a combination of beliefs and influences and memories. It changes from moment to moment.
No person can ever truly know another.
Divide the world up into its smallest particles and you will not find a single atom of truth, of reason, or love. They are human creations.
A person’s beliefs become their truth. Everyone lives in a slightly different world of their own creation.
Strip those beliefs away, and life is a terribly uncomforting place.
Everyone has the right to believe what they like but not the right to kill others for those beliefs.
The goals of war are never worth the costs.
Time goes on. Everything passes, be it good or bad.
The world is a tangled ball of connection and complication and if it was smooth and perfect then nothing would exist.
We’re all just muddling through.
"Communism was an okay idea.
"Communism was an okay idea. Emphasis on idea."
I agree. The idea that everything be equal is one that even our demorcatic republic is based on. Though I believe comunism is highly unlikely to work. Humans are too easily corrupt and comunist countries too easily become dictatorships.
Dear President Obama,

Hmm. Beliefs.
Hmm. Beliefs.
Here's a few.
Although humans will always strive to rationalize existence, they never will.
Evolution happened and is happening. That Darwin guy was on to something.
The leaders of PETA are hypocrites.
"Global Warming" is a dumbed-down catchphrase for use by those learning of it, those opposed to it, and the media. "Global climate change" is far more appropriate, and is happening, and we have an effect on it. To what extent is anyone's guess.
On a related note, we do not know how our planet works. We have not been inside it. We have not lived on it for nearly long enough to understand it fully. We can only make assumptions on how it may change in the future, and that's what they are: assumptions.
"Absolute power corrupts absolutely."
Communism was an okay idea. Emphasis on idea.
As Winston Churchill put it, "It has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried."
War is a natural and so far inseparable attribute of those species that grow to question existence.
Choice of sexuality is as much a human right as is the right to live. The two are twins born of the same Constitutional belief.
Difference should be always treasured and never shunned.
Public speech is the ability to confidently pretend to get to know a multitude of people at the same time.
Working together isn't always the answer; sometimes individuals can accomplish feats that even nations could only dream of.
Peaceful force is always preferred to forceful peace.
Space is the answer to the majority of the most pertinent human problems. The sooner governments acknowledge that and quit beating around the damn bush about it, the better.
Politics, like most human creations, are temporal and will only last as long as humans think they need them.
Humans should look to natural process as a model for their own society.
Earth is going to die, just like all the other planets and stars in the universe either have or will, and there is nothing we can do about it.
If we find life outside of our system, it won't be nearly as engaging as we've imagined it to be.
A person who can escape the limitations of their society and their nationality to become admired by all is a true human, and truly immortal.
