YWP Week 5: Halloween entries from Richmond Elementary School

ggevalt's picture

From time to time, we get a bunch of great entries from one class. We don't have room for them all on the newspaper pages, so we post them all on the Web. Here then, are the entries from Mrs. Marie Ayer's Grade 3 class at Richmond Elementary School:

Halloween night
By Tory

Halloween is spooky.
Halloween is fun.
You get to pick out your costumes
lots of scary stuff.
Pop out and scare someone.
Come on it’s fun, you get to go down your road
stopping at every house.
My bag is overflowing,
I don’t know what to do, but I could ...
eat it

Halloween
By Riley

One Halloween in 1826 I woke up and yelled JOSH! Time for breakfast! No answer. JOSH! NO ANSWER. JOSH!!!!! No answer. So I went upstairs and looked in his bed. He wasn’t there. I looked out the window and saw red stripes in the sky! I ran downstairs and out the door. I hurried to a little cottage in the forest. When I looked inside, I saw three witches and my brother Josh. Their wands were flashing. I saw them turn my brother into a cat. They threw him out the door.

I ran to the sheriff and said, “Three witches turned my brother into a cat.”

The sheriff gathered up everybody in town and brought them to the cottage. All they saw was a little black cat. If you see a little black cat, bring it to my house.

Halloween
By Riley

One night I went trick-or-treating, and afterwards I went through the Haunted Forest. First, I had to wait for my turn and then I went in. Somebody jumped out on me and that freaked me out. Then somebody else jumped out with fake knife and it was into his body, it looked like it was. I ran past him then I went through this stringy kid of stuff then this chainsaw turned right on that hurt my ears. I went right past him. Then I went on this bridge before I got on it, it went up and down really fast.

Then I ate hot dogs.

Halloween
By Oliver

I like Halloween because you can get in a costume and scare other people. It’s fun to see what my parents are going to be because it’s always funny. Anyone can get scared. My mom last year was a witch and my dad was Hans. I am going to be the Grim Reaper for Halloween.

Halloween night
By Nicole

You are scared on Halloween Night. This year I am dressing up as a pop star and I will be spooky. With a spooky dress, I will scare people. And I know that whoever I scare will be freaked. Whoever they are, they always are, they always scream like, “Aaaaaaaa.” Before they scream I go, “Boo!”

Halloween, the poem
By Nani

and get lots of candy when you trick-or-treat.
So have a very scary, freaky, and absolutely spooked
HALLOWEEN NIGHT!

The witch

By Kylie

The moon was full and orange. The wolves were howl all night long. The owls were hooting. I got scared because we were sitting around the campfire. I went to get some more marshmallows. When I got back my stick with my marshmallow was gone. There was a witch in the sky with my marshmallows. It was freaky. I crawled in my mom’s lap. We went home and I went to bed. Later the witch woke me up. I went on the porch. She threw my marshmallow at me. It got stuck in my hair. I woke my mom up and she finally got it out for me.

Halloween night
By Kurt

I like scaring the wits out of other people, hiding out behind a sand pile and scaring my cousin pure white. I like to go trick-or -treating with my cousin. After I got my favorite piece of caramel, I went to my house and stayed up all night
eating all my candy.

Halloween is when there is a full moon and the dead can come back to life. There are parties and people wear costumes like ghosts, goblins, mummies, skeletons, werewolves, witches, pirate captains, Frankenstein, cowboys, Civil War soldiers, Star War people, Narnia people, devils and many others.

Dressing up
By Kelly

What I like about Halloween is dressing up, going trick-or-treating, getting candy, going to my grandmas' and grandpas’ houses and seeing other people’s costumes.

I also like to show my costume to my grandmas and grandpas. And you’ll never figure out what I’m going to be for my Halloween party and trick-or-treating. Well, I’ll tell you anyway. I am going to be a genie for my Halloween party and a movie star for trick-or-treating. So now you know what I like about Halloween, what I’m going to be for Halloween, and where I’m going. So, bye, I have to go. Talk to you later.

Halloween night
By katie

I want to tell you how my Halloween goes. First the day before Halloween my dad helps my sister Kasey and I carve pumpkins. Then when it is Halloween we light them up. My mom puts out candy. We go trick-or-treating. We drive and park in a parking lot. We get out of the car and we go to houses and houses and say, “trick-or-treat.” We get a lot of candy. Then we go back to the car. We drive to my dad’s friend’s house and play with his kids and get candy. We drive home to my house. And that’s my Halloween.

A weird Halloween
By Jordan

It was Halloween night; I got ready to go trick-or-treating. Then I figured out something. I did not have a Halloween costume. I ran down the stairs and I told my mom that I did not have a costume.

We went to the costume store. We looked for a costume and I found a costume. It was called the Emperor of Evil. I told my mom that I found a costume. She followed me to the costume, she looked at the price tag and it said 24.99. We bought it.

We got ready for our Halloween party. The first person to come was Hunter and then Brian. When everybody was there our house was full. When we were done treating, I had 76 pieces of candy in total. When everybody was gone it was very quiet.

My favorite holiday
By Jessica

Halloween is my favorite holiday. Not only because of the candy, but because you can be free in choosing your costume. My costume will be a witch that has pants with spider print on the bottom and a very shiny shirt.

Halloween is the only time of the year that we have a chance to make the spirits come out. The scary costumes make it more convincing for that to happen. I mean I don’t really care if people wear a costume that is not scary, it’s a tradition to me to wear scary costumes.

This year it kind of stinks that Halloween is on a school night, so the kids can’t stay up late. At least you can hang out and trick or treat with your friends. My friend’s name is Amelia and she is going trick or treating with me this year. I go all over Richmond and then I go to my road.

Halloween nightmares
By Jacob

One night when I was little, I was trick or treating. I went to my neighbor’s house. There was nobody home and it was scary so I went to the house next to theirs. People said a witch lived in it but I did not believe them.

I opened the door with a creak and went inside. A cackle echoed throughout the room. A witch flew down on her broom and………… I woke up from a nightmare.

Tonight was Halloween. I went downstairs and dressed in my costume. I was a glowing skeleton. I walked down the sidewalk and got some candy. Then went back home. I would not have any bad dreams. I would never go to sleep again!

Spooky decorations
By Elliot

These are some of the good Halloween decorations that I’ve come upon in my life. One time when I was 5 or 6 years old, I was trick or treating. I came upon a fake robotic hand that someone had set up on their lawn. I probably knew it wasn’t real, but I was really freaked out. The hand kind of moved by walking on its fingers. Just about a week ago I saw a fake spider web and on it was a big spider, obviously a fake, but a great Halloween decoration.

I’m still thinking about if I should or shouldn’t trick or treat this year. If I do, I get like one hundred forty-three pieces of candy at the most and seventy pieces at the least.

Creepy Halloween
By Douglas

It was Halloween and kids were getting dressed up for what was the best Halloween. They didn’t know that one family was waiting for trick-o-treaters to spook their brains out of them. One trick-o-treater came in a King Ninja costume. Another trick-o-treater came in a BMX Rider costume. The people were so scared they ran around the world in one DAY!

Halloween is great,
everybody is dressing up.
Getting scared,
Oh, what fun it is!
Everybody knows that you
just have to get scared once
to be in the
Fun!

The mouse
By Abby

Nighttime, there’s a moon shining high in the sky. I’m ready to go, to go trick-or-treating. I’m going as a police-mouse named MAPPY, “Squeak, squeak!, I want cheese!” I'll walk through the crunching leaves. I’m going with my family: mom, dad, sister, brother, and me. (My cat can’t go).

Getting lost
By Tucker

One Halloween night I got lost. I saw a library and it was spooky. I went in the library. When I got in I saw a skeleton hanging by a rope from the ceiling. I looked around and went upstairs. I saw lots and lots of books. I saw another skeleton on a desk.

It stared at me. I ran as fast as I could. I was lost in the library because I was so scared. There was a bang! I thought the library was haunted. I saw what I thought was a man but it was an illusion. I heard loud foot steps coming towards me. I ran again. I got out happy!
