Must Say Goodbye
Must Say Goodbye
One clear blue summer night Annie and Nick were walking down an old road. When suddenly the sky lit up and out of the darkness came a little girl, dressed in white. Annie and Nick ran to toward her but she disappeared. They started to walk away. Then they heard crying. The children whipped around. There she was walking toward them.
“Who are you?” Annie called.
“I am Rebecca. What year is it?” "2007 Nick said.
“Oh no! When I died it was 1962!”
“What!” the kids stammered
“It is true. I am dead. I need your help. I must say goodbye to my mother. Or she will never forgive me.”
“For what?” Nick asked.
“I shall not tell you. You would not be able to rest.”
“Of course we will help you” Nick said. “Tell us where she lives.”
“Last time I checked. In the old house covered with ivy vines.”
“Mrs.Henderson!”
“Wow! She never comes out of her house. But, on Halloween she gives out the best popcorn balls.”
“Oh yes. That’s mother. Let us go.”
Once they had reached the big house with the ivy vines, Rebecca stiffened. “I’m not sure I can do this. I’m not sure I can face her.”
“It’s alright. I’m sure whatever you did she’ll forgive you.” Nick insured. Slowly Rebecca stepped toward the house.
“I’ll be back.” Rebecca said. The children stood there, for what seemed like hours. Then finally she came out. “Everything is fixed. Now I can rest in peace. Goodbye for now.” Once again, the sky lit up and she disappeared into the darkness.

I like that you put dialogue in the story to make the reader feel more involved. I also like the whole mystical setting of the story!
I would suggest that you talk about the conversation between Mrs. Henderson and Rebecca. I'm curious about why Rebecca was worried that Mrs. Henderson wouldn't forgive her. What did she do? How did Mrs. Henderson react when she saw the spirit of Rebecca? What was said that fixed everything so that Rebecca can go in peace? Just expand and draw the reader in even more!
