Sign up for the Art of Storytelling Workshop

March is Narrative month and I'm excited to collaborate with the Young Writers Project to offer a workshop on the Art of Storytelling. This workshop will kick off with a gathering at the new-and-improved Young Writers Project space from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. on March 6. We'll eat pizza, talk about what makes a good story, look at examples of successful narratives, and do a number of writing prompts and exercises that will lead us to a story of our own.
The end of this meeting is just the beginning of our work, however. Our goal is to each create a polished narrative using the ideas and tools explored in our March 6 meeting. Over the course of the month, we'll continue to hone our writing skills, fine tune our ideas, and revise our stories. We'll give and receive feedback from other workshop participants, (myself included), and ultimately create a story of publishable quality.
Then, on Saturday April 3, we'll reconvene to share our work, talk about our individual experiences in crafting these narratives, and post our polished pieces on the Young Writers Project Web site. And, of course, we'll be celebrating the fruits of our labor over food and drink!
If you're interested in taking part in this workshop, please email GG (ggevalt@youngwritersproject.org) and me (katy.demong@goddard.edu) by March 1 to reserve your spot.
Oh yeah, one last thing ... You're probably wondering, "Who the heck are you?" That's a great question, and one I will try to answer succinctly. First, just a few quick facts: I'm 27, have been living in Burlington for almost six years, and am completing my masters in creative writing at Goddard College. I've worked as a journalist, editor, and professional marketing writer. I'm currently working on a collection of short stories as part of my Goddard thesis.
I'm also headed out to Vancouver this week to cheer on my brother, a nordic combined skier and four time Olympian, and will be blogging about it on this site. I'm looking forward to sharing some of my stories with you in this way, and I hope you'll join me to share some of your own in my upcoming workshop.

Wow, this sounds amazing, and
Wow, this sounds amazing, and I really, really wish I could participate! But I have a prior commitment that Saturday:(
I hope there are more things like this in the future!
