What's going on here?

YWP folks,
Some of you may have noticed a few changes around here lately. Hope you like some of the things we've done. We are, slowly, shifting the way this site works to place more emphasis on writing and improving writing. We look forward to engaging you more in discussion of the changes, but here's what we've done so far:
- Creation of Groups. We have four new, active groups, where you can join and create a specific type of content (Click on YWP Groups here or in the left sidebar.) The groups:
- YWP Book Club, open to all, a place to write about, converse about books, books and more books through a content type called "bookblog";
- Narrative Writing Group, open to all, a place to specifically focus on narrative writing and a place where, on a limited basis, we will bring in professionals to workshop writing through a content type called "narrative";
- The Grads' Space, open only to high schoolers, a place where only YWP grads and mentors can share their writing. High schoolers are welcome to read and comment. Sorry, younger students will not be permitted as some content may not be appropriate.
- The News Room, open to everyone, a place to create news stories -- projects, reviews, opinion pieces, experiential pieces -- or to react to the news around you. GG will be spending time in this and will bring in some of his journalistic type friends to help with projects and workshops.
- First Night, is a read- and comment-only space where we had a special performance project. This may be revived if we decide to do another performance of the work.
- More groups are being considered by genre, special project and age group. Let us know your ideas.
- Private Messaging. Some of you have already caught on to this. You now can send messages to other users that only they can see. While this has only been in place a couple of weeks, we've already seen a difference in the commenting on the posts -- less chatting. THANKS! Because the point of this site is to provide each other feedback on the writing. Share that in public!
- Subscriptions to content. You can see that you can now subscribe to specific posts, authors, content type and comment threads. You can have the subscriptions sent to your email or private message system. Edit your subscriptions in "My Account."
- Genre tagging. We're asking you to choose a genre when you create content. This should help you in finding other material by genre. We continue to look for ways for you to get out the amazing amount of great material being posted here.
- Tags for prompts. YWP is receiving thousands of submissions this year. Here's an easy way to read some of them.
We will be undertaking more changes. We also plan to hold a Saturday Pizza session soon to talk over the site, show you some things and generally gab. Stay tuned.

GG-
SQUEE!! This is fantastic! Every time I log on there's something new to play with. It's really making a difference, I think.
How do I go about joining the "Grads" group?

Great point nonnie...
To join a group, click on "YWP Groups" and then click "Join."
If it is an open group you will be admitted immediately.
If it is a group for a certain age group you will be confirmed when I get a chance and if you are of the correct age...

Maybe?
Could there maybe be a way to get notifications if someone comments on your work?

This should already be set up for you. I have it set up for authors are autosubscribed to their own posts.
You can also go to "My Account" and click "Notifications" to set it so that you also get notifications for any posts on which you comment OR you can do it for specific posts you comment on by clicking "subscribe to this post"
hope that helps.
(By the way, have you NOT been getting notifications on your own posts when someone comments? If so do you know whether webmaster@youngwritersproject.org is blocked at your email account?)
NOTE TO OTHERS: Can you make sure that webmaster@youngwritersproject.org as well as edevries@... and lmcisaac@... and ggevalt@... are ALLOWED in your email?
thanks

i
i have sent sooo many writing pieces and have not recieved any email notifying me about any posts by the users or mentors. My recent writing, "Green Mountain State", i got an email when i submitted it for the newspaper and also got an email telling me that a mentor had commented, but i didn't recieve any notification for all my other entries????
HELP
notifications
The notification changes are relatively recent, so if you're wondering about writing you submitted before, say, about a week ago, the answer is that the notification system was not working then and so you would not expect to get an email. Or are you talking about something submitted in the past week for which you did not receive an email?

Oh my gosh, I LOVE the prompt
Oh my gosh, I LOVE the prompt tag cloud!! SO much!! Everything else is looking great, too. I can't believe how much the site has grown!
And I would love to do a Saturday pizza thing (especially to make up for my lame opting out of last weekend's workshop) sometime, even though I don't have much to say about the site... Hopefully I'll be spending some more time on here once 3rd quarter ends. Wahooo :)
The improvements are very
The improvements are very noticeable and seem to be getting people more involved. Good so far.
When is said pizza social being planned? I have spring break the coming week.
About the genre tags...
Hey GG--
I noticed that there isn't a tag for fantasy along with the other genres--that's definitely something I would use. I've been looking around, and it all looks very, very neat!

Done.

Well, I haven't been getting
Well, I haven't been getting any emails about comments & such; do I have to subscribe to something for that or will it just happen? I do, however, get emails about private messages, so I'm pretty sure the YWP webmaster address is allowed.
Also, I think a short story tag might be a good idea? I'd use that. Or vignette, maybe. Sometimes stuff like that is hard to genre-ize otherwise.
Mmkay. That's what I got. :)
you need to set up ...
...notifications by post...or author...or at your account

Man!
YWP has evolved over the years! Love it! ^_^

Something entirely unrelated-
Did you put in some sort of swear-monitoring/filtering thing?
...Can I protest it?

I think we already established that PG13 concepts and language were okay on here. Really explicit stuff is for the GradSpace, but still. If it offends somebody, they can chose not to read it.
