Multi-Media Room & other groups UPDATED

Please click the "GROUPS" menu at the top to check out and join the new working groups at YWP. These will help focus your writing, your projects and future workshops and online help.

In the Multi-Media Room you can now create a video story -- which allows you to upload a video, powerpoint, slideshow, photo story and the like. NOTE: Your piece is sent to a Web-based application where it is converted for display; it may take a few minutes to appear and play correctly! AND when it does appear, please edit it and post any appropriate text below the player code you'll see at the top.

ALSO: You'll note that you can leave video comments on any blog anywhere. Cool. What if you don't have a Web camera on your computer? Sorry, this feature will not work.

If you have a video cam, though, there may be a way to turn it into a Web cam. This is NOT something I've done yet, so if there is anyone out there who knows how to do this, leave your info in the comments below.

But basically, here's what you can do.

  • Many of the newer cameras have software that came with it that will turn the camera into a Web cam. Check the manual. (Er, what's that? Hunt around for it or go online to the manufacturer for a pdf version.) Set up according to the instructions. (THAT's a new concept!)
  • If you don't have that capability, check out this software that has been recommended but NOT TESTED by YWP: http://www.shareup.com/SarmSoft_WebCam-download-32860.html
    It's free for 30 days and then $25 for life if it works well. Your choice.

OK, so you have a Web cam but, actually, you do NOT want people to see your face? You just want to leave an audio comment? Easy. In the choices of WebCam, choose the one that does NOT work, as in all you see is a small black screen above the "record" button. Great. Just record and all it will capture is the sound.

Try it out.

I just posted a video to the Multi-Media room, but accidentally posted a 30 second clip instead of the full movie. After realizing this I put up the full movie, so if two things that look the same come up--that's why. I'll delete the shorter movie when it does comes up, but I guess it hasn't finished processing yet.

Hopefully it all works. I can post the text after the video has loaded, correct?
