The Early Word: Mideast Peace Talks

The Early Word: Mideast Peace Talks - Israeli and Palestinian leaders begin direct peace talks today at the State Department.
[NYTimes Politics] Today marks the beginning of Mideast peace talks hosted in the U.S., and I find myself wondering how successful they will be this time. Perhaps most terrifying of all is a thought I can't seem to entirely dispel--that Israelis and Palestinians will never be able to live peacefully side-by-side. I continue to recall a disturbing memory from this summer when I was talking with some Israeli teens who told me that things really aren't that bad. They said that the issues with Palestine don't get that much attention, and that a lot of people in their area don't really care about what is happening.
That the ignorant brutality is "not that bad" makes me wonder just how aware people are of the issues in the Mideast, and not just in Israel and Palestine. I lay no claim to knowing that much either, but at least I am trying to learn more and understand what is happening, because I believe these issues could have a horrifying and deadly effect on our future.
