Looking for Alaska Cover

I have been looking at the cover for over a year and always thought that the smoke symbolized the constant smoking and breaking of rules by the four friends. Today, I discovered the candle at the bottom. It was interesting to note that John Green says he likes the cover better with the smoke and without the candle. Do you agree?
The candle reminds me of the song "Like a Candle in the Wind" and the overdramatic teen-arranged funeral in God of Beer. Doesn't the link to that song trivialize the death?

Difference in opinion

no, I don't quite agree about the song. I got the book recently, about 2 weeks ago. I think the cover is symbolizing Alaska's endless candle volcano and the smoke symbolizes her soul floating around in the midst of the boys and her other friends. Also, them getting in trouble and breaking the rules.
