The Story of Carissa

Run. That's all that she could do: run as fast as she could away from the creature. Carrissa could only see it's shadow when it passed overhead, and the size was enough to scare her into speeding up. She had never been this scared before in her entire sixteen years of existance. And, honestly, she likely would never be this scared again.

She tore her shirt on a branch on one of the bare, dark trees that she was running through. No matter where she looked, she could see only forest and the trail. Carissa couldn't make it through there without hurting herself. The woods were far too dense.

A loud, earpiercing scream sounded from above. Almost as if it had immobilized her, Carissa put her hands over her ears and stopped dead. Her mind was screaming, "Run! Run!" Her legs were burning for stop.

And then it landed. Slowly the girl looked at the source of the shadow that she had been escaping.
