Candyfreaks?

I loved it when Steve Almond described himself rolling on the pile of Halloween candy. That one scene, more than any other, told me the extent of his love for candy, especially chocolate. Can you relate?

Do you think Steve Almond's attitude toward candy is a more extreme form of something everyone shares?

Does it have to be chocolate?

Good point that not everyone

Good point that not everyone eats sugar. But do you think they would if they could?

I agree that some parts of the book definitely suffered from TMI, but I wonder if Steve Almond thought that maybe this would help the book appeal to a wider audience. What do you think?

One thing he got dead wrong--coconut is wonderful. Coconut and chocolate combined are the food of the gods! At least as far as I'm concerned. Make mine a Mounds, or maybe an Almond Joy.

yes it has to be chocolate

It totally has to be chocolate! Chocolate is the soul of candy! I think that the title of the book is enough to tell you that this guy is crazy! and the line about saying kaddish for the older candy bars pointed out his fascination.
I think that steve almond's attitude toward candy is not an extreme form of something that everyone shares. Perish the thought, some people don't eat sugar!!!!!
I thought the whole thing about his "physical problems" was uneeded. The reason he gave for including it didn't even make sense. anybody else have a view on that?
the book really makes you hungry. I had to go eat a snickers bar. did you get that effect?
