Lies for the Liars
Lies for the Liars
By Chris Cheever
Lebanon High School, Grade 12
On my knees I’m shaking, stumbling on my words as they are forced out
Looking up at you, smiling
Tears in my eyes and in yours
My hands quivering while I ask
You choke on your tears and words
Nodding and blurting out a fainted yes
Feelings and actions followed fit the normality: hugs, kisses, love
Consumed by the unrealistic view of the present lasting
Always jumping, never looking
Always knowing, never doubting
Till it starts to crumble, shake, and tremble
The strength fades, unable to overcome blockades and barriers
The anxiety too much, the objection to it all too great and too tall
Unable to withstand the frontal blow, you give up all the hope
Finally faced with an obstacle that you have to climb
You let go and freefall, catching yourself in a decision of paths
Catching me in limbo, stuck waiting and emotionally faded
Slander is all I see come from your mouth now
Knowing and not doubting all the falsehood that was the relationship
The memories feel like brittle cold and slicing razors
Hate and maliciousness rise and help ease the fictional past
Yet no matter the amount of hate, the memories can’t fade
