"Free country."
Before I learned to love myself, I learned to love my country.
And at the age of 5, I became part of the machine.
I became the naive kindergartener
Who learns to obey.
Respect authority,
Don’t speak out of turn,
Stay in line.
Now, I’m unlearning.
Now, I’m watching everyone grow up
And continue the silent submission.
I’m watching the ones in charge
Underestimate our worth,
Put a number on us,
Factory farm us,
And take away our identity
On the 9-5 shift.
Oppression, restriction, and psychological manipulation.
These are the real American values.
These are the real synonyms
Of “freedom.”
