Static or dynamic character

I believe that the static character in the book is the Colonel and Alaska. I mean, even though Alaska passes away, she never changed her up-down mood. The colonel was upset when he heard the news, but his detective investigative way of figuring things out and planning things hasn't changed. Pudge has changed though. His love for Alaska has not but he becomes more drawn back and angry after her death.

Dynamic
I think Pudge (Miles Halter), is a dynamic character. Throughout the book Pudge changes by becoming more open with people at school. He makes new friends. He does things that he never would have done before. In the beginning he was quiet and kept to himself. Then after he got duct taped and thrown into the lake he took part in the pranks that his friends thought of to get back at them. He also participated in many of the other pranks. Before Pudge went to Culver Creek he never smoked or drank. Pudge’s friends had a big influence on his life changes.
Dynamic
Pudge is a dynamic character. In the beginning he is looking for his “Great Perhaps”. He just wants his life to be better. He wants to find friends. He’s an anti social person at the beginning of the story. He spends his time trying to memorize people’s last words. Pudge changed in a few ways. First he didn’t smoke before Culver Creek but because he was able to acquire friends he developed a new habit (bad change, he didn’t want to do it a lot but still did it). His friends also introduced him to drinking (again, bad change for the same reason). I can only think of two real changes that happened to Pudge at Culver Creek. One he worked harder at his academics and became a better student (good because he can get farther in like this way). The second change that I noticed was that he became more open to the world. Before Culver Creek he was all about helping himself. During his stay at the Creek he helped people with problems from school to emotional issues. He also tried to figure out what happened to Alaska. This was kind of personal but he and his close friends were all trying. So they were helping themselves and each other. This is why this is a good change.
Dynamic
I think Pudge is a dynamic character, also. He changes a lot throughout the book, and in some ways, not for the better. Before Miles got his nickname as Pudge, he never smoked, or drank. Once he got to Culver Creek, he changed because of the people he became friends with. I think that even though Alaska and the Colonel got him into more trouble, it was a good thing for Pudge to have a group of friends that accepted him. He changed a lot and made some bad decisions, but it defined who he is.
Dynamic
I think Pudge has to be the most dynamic persona in this book. When he leaves boring old home with no friends to a private school for the smarter kids, his life took a 180 turn for the better. He's introduced to a variety of interesting people that become his friends. He meets Alaska, the girl of his dreams, and instantly falls in love. She's the biggest influence on Pudge (Miles). Second to that is the whole idea of being away from your parents at a private school where you get to start over, gain a new reputation, and put on another mask for other people to look at. He get's turned into a rebel in his year there. He begins to smoke, drink, and break campus rules. That's where his other friends come into play; the schools best pranksters. The Colonel, Takumi, and Lara all get him in on the action. And lastly, his introduction to his religion class has also changed perspectives on his Great Perhaps and his overall outlook on life.
