14. Procrastination. If you had more time, you’d be able to put it off longer. What do you put off to the last moment? Why? Tell a story about how you just barely got something done in time – or didn’t.
Alternate: Splat! Use that word in a story or a poem.

You Left for the Last Time

By Catherine Ingemi
Rochester High School, Grade 10

The last time,
I felt this way,
I was barely alive.

And where,
Were you?
You weren’t here.

The last time,
I felt this way,
I wanted to be dead.

And where,
Were you?
You said you didn’t love me anymore.

The last time,
I felt this way,
I wanted the pain to disappear.

And where,
Were you?
You caused the pain.

The last time,
I felt this way,
I tried to make the pain evaporate.

And where,
Were you?
You couldn’t make everything better, this time.

The last time,
I felt this way,
I was alone.

And where,
Were you?
You came back and said you were wrong.

The last time,
I felt this way,
You left me.

And where,
Were you?
You were gone this time forever.

You are, of course, going to keep writing

Dear Cat

This was a great piece last year and reading it again I see even more depth than originally. I hope that you and your compadres will continue to submit work to YWP as you are all very talented and should keep writing!

Keep in touch,
