Vast Skies

The setting sun sinks slowly down to bed,
Closing its eye and falling into a short slumber.
Aureate rays swirl into crimson red,
Blending darker shades of warm umber,

From myriad vivid indigo, violet, carnation pinks.
Gradually, the effulgent white orb climbs on high,
Neatly splattered with eburnean ink.
Stars follow, blinking, in and out of sight.

The glowing yellow sphere has said goodbye.
Numberless lights create a Juneoesque palace
In the deep midnight sky.
But down at the surface,

There’s a small clueless world below.
The busy world above they do not know.
