I Couldn't Care Less

I don't care what your opinions are, not

I simply couldn't care less.

I don't care

if you think women

are beneath you

and should stay at home

and feed the kids

and cook your dinner.

I don't care

if you think that

loving someone of the same gender

is a sin,

that it is an abomination.

I don't care

if you think that

abortion is horrible

and that it shouldn't be

I don't care.

I really don't.

do care

that because you don't think

I should be paid as much

as you,

I'm not,

even if our work

is the exact same .

do care,

because you believe

in that little book,

and somehow that gives you

the power

to keep me

from marrying the woman

I love.

do care

that because you think

it's irresponsible,

you won't allow me

to get rid of something

inside of me

that I didn't want

and certainly didn't

ask for,

even if I know

I can't take care of it,

not really.

Not like I should.

I will care then.

I care right now.

At this point

I know we'll never

see eye to eye.

That's perfectly fine with me.

I don't care.

All I ask

is that you don't make me

All I ask

is that you don't cram

your ideas on how

I should live my life

down my throat.

Because I'll care then,

just like I care right now.

Powerful piece; thanks for

Powerful piece; thanks for sharing.

If you were looking to revise this piece at some point I might suggest that maybe you clarify why you don't want to care. I feel like intuitively through the tone of the piece I understand what you're getting at but the theme maybe isn't as strongly supported in the actual text. Does that make sense? Just a thought!

I love this. The one part

I love this. The one part that I felt could be stronger was the stanza about "that little book." I totally get what you're saying, but you actually take away some of your piece's power by saying "you think that little book gives you the power..." you make it seem as though the power these people (and that book) hold, is merely an illusion, only seen by the person who thinks he is in power. When in fact, those people, that book, really do have power. I think it's important to clarify that difference. Maybe something more like "I DO care, because you believe in that little book and somehow that gives you the power to keep me from marrying" Do you see what I mean?
