new york city

For A Moment

I never knew
that here
a place so near
to there

The fog
hangs
in
silence

surrounding me
and gliding over my skin

leaving tiny beads of moisture
clinging for their life
for if they fall
they will lose their individuality
and join the puddle below my feet

a deep breath
really is
a breath of fresh air
not
an air freshener
of just chemicals

and for a moment
I forget
that I'm
in the middle of
New York City

New York City

I was ten when I first visited New York City. It was September I do believe, and my mother and I took a bus trip into the city with her work. I didn’t really travel much, besides when I visited relatives, so I was quite excited. We gathered at the bus around five in the morning, but I was too frenzied to be tired. Once the whole crew boarded up, we started off on the adventure.

Bus Stop

Looking for inspiration, I leave my tiny New York City apartment. According to this morning’s newspaper, Wednesday May 24 is going to be seventy two and sunny. What a load of crap. Opening up my faded and cracked shades I expect to be greeted by warmth and light. Instead, I’m greeted by a gray drizzle falling from the sky into the sea of black umbrellas swirling below.
