Creating words that beg for music -- Young songWriters Project

Jon Gailmor
By Jon Gailmor
My songwriting history doesn’t even vaguely resemble that of Paul Simon, Smokey Robinson or Carole King. Would that it did. My first complete lyrics were “I wanna take a bath with Cath” composed in kindergarten, where we were on a first-name basis with our teachers and were encouraged to express our feelings. I was quite the child prodigy, except for the fact my next lyrics didn’t take shape until I was 23, out of college and hitchhiking through Europe.

Free, Unfinished Lyrics
Submitted by perspiciens on August 19, 2008 - 14:07.So, I tried to write some lyrics for a song and this is what I have. If anyone is interested in using the lyrics for a song and/or adding to them, feel free. Hope you like them.
[V1]
They fell to the ground
Like soldiers in a row
An execution of time
Their blood will turn cold
[V1.5]
They provide the Earth
With safety from harm
But now they are lost
Until their rebirth
[Chorus]
Come home
My dears
There's much to be done
Thoughts left unsaid
Words left unheard
Come home
My dears
Back to your families
They need you
Need you
I'm thinking another verse and a half, then the chorus, a bridge, and then the chorus again. Do what you will. Can't wait to possibly here these lyrics in a podcast!

Never Return
Submitted by secular.mosh.pit on July 22, 2008 - 16:54.(chorus)
We're leavin' for the army never to return,
we'll fight back for our country no matter who we burn,
The terrorists can bomb us but they'll never learn,
so we're leaving for the army never to return,
(Verse)
We wanted to do something meaningful with our lives (with our lives)
And not be stuck inside some stuffy office (stuffy office)
We thought to fight for freedom (fight for freedom)
But freedom rarely ever comes from bloodshed (comes from bloodshed)
(chorus)
We're leavin' for the army never to return,
we'll fight back for our country no matter who we burn,
The terrorists can bomb us but they'll never learn,
so we're leaving for the army never to return,
(verse)
We're always told that death is just a beginning (just a beginning)
But everybody knows it's just the end (just the end)
We thought to fight for freedom (fight for freedom)
But we hardly ever stepped off the plane (into the rain)
(Bridge)
When I turn my back to leave

Dried Leaves
Submitted by secular.mosh.pit on July 21, 2008 - 16:37.It's him or me
preemptive strikes
you save the trees
won't save a life
Burn the city
say it's for God
you won't feel pity
it's still for God.
We're all....
Dried leaves!
Crushed under the heel of society.
Robots!
Told what to think by corporations.
And Nature!
Is just an obstruction to progress.
And free thought!
stands in the way of everyone's profit!
(Guitar)
And now we see
the pain and strife
no one agrees
we pay the price
we want freedom
the give us none
we want wisdom
they cut and run
We're all....
Dried leaves!
Crushed under the heel of society.
Robots!
Told what to think by corporations.
And Nature!
Is an obstruction to progress.
And free thought!
stands in the way of everyone's profit!
We'll all die
alone
with no God above
We all sigh
as one
with no one to love
We all cry
and sigh
with no one to blame! (blame could work as a scream)
(guitar gets louder then fades away to complete silence)
We're all....

Pointless Army
Submitted by secular.mosh.pit on July 20, 2008 - 09:19.(Verse)
Other than their helpless minds
I am the only casualty
Of this eternal worthless war
and all that it can be
And as I die and go to hell
I know I can't turn back,
for all that ends was left behind
when I joined the ranks
(Chorus)
We're a pointless army
in a pointless war
with the pointless objective
of feeding the poor
with our lies and our death
so just save your breath
Woah-oh!
(Verse)
Have you walked a hundred miles
in my bloody shoes,
to find a hopeful tunnel light
that's never really there
and while your achin' back does break
you wish you'd turned away,
from that drug of falsehood
that always tempts you still.
(Chorus)
We're a pointless army
in a pointless war
with the pointless objective
of feeding the poor
with our lies and our death
so just save your breath
Woah-oh!
(Bridge)
Lead on
strive on
To find a truth without a purpose
and find a fight without a foe
to lead against the army
that's only in our minds

White Lies
Submitted by secular.mosh.pit on July 19, 2008 - 11:59.I've written quite a few songs over the past year or two, and I'm going to try to dig some of the better ones out of my computer for the next several days and post them up here. Some are older and some are very new, but I'm going to try to put them in chronological order. Very few have been sung louder than a whisper, and none have been recorded, so I might make a podcast of one or two of them at some point. This intro is a bit long, so I'll stop now.
___________
(Verse)
I love this picture,
it's fantastic
The blues and reds,
they just blend, so well
I was just wondering
What is this supposed to be?
Is it a dog or a tree?
(Verse)
Oh, no daddy,
that's my mommy
and all that green, that is
her hair.
But do you still love it?
I drew it just for you.
(Pre-Chorus)
Of course, "we'll put it right up on the fridge!"
(Chorus)
You don't prepare for a "white lie,"
they just sneak up on you.
"I love it!"
"I hate her!"
"I'm [not your friend anymore!]"
Listen
Submitted by vtmusic_lover on April 2, 2008 - 22:19.Vs. 1
Please just listen
Listen to the sound
can't you hear it
it's ringing so loud
the whisper of the wind
the rustle of the leaves
the music of the morning
the buzzing of the bees
Chorus:
The quite things in life
the ones we often miss
the beating of a heart
the sound of a kiss
But if you have the right kind of ears
then you can often hear
the silent things in life
on the other side of the everyday worl
that no one else can hear
just listen
Vs. 2
Rain on a tin roof
when you're lyin in bed
the movement of the field
with flowers round your head
the heartbeat of the one you love
as you breathe together
listening to eachother
for always and forever
Chorus
Bridge:
When times get tough
and your goin down
just sit
and brethe
and listen
Chorus
Flowers (song lyrics)
Submitted by hoopfairy14 on March 21, 2008 - 10:21.Outside,
Flowers grow, but
Inside,
You’d never know,
We never show,
What’s inside of our hearts,
You’d never know,
That you are a part,
Outside,
Flowers grow, but
Inside,
You’d never know,
You may be the one,
But I’d never say,
To you, “You’re the one,”
And hope its okay,
Outside,
Flowers grow, but
Inside,
You’d never know.

They flow,
They move,
They jive,
They sing,
They tell the world bout everything.
Off they go
Singing
One
Two
Three
BAM goes the chorus
Off go the words
Telling the story which has never been heard.

No Hidden Lies
Submitted by Hugh Randall on March 16, 2008 - 19:02.Waking up today
You walk over to the windowpane
To see cosmetics in disarray
You want to throw it all away
It’s time to start the day
Put on your lingerie
Slip on your low cut skirt, now which top?
This one or not?
It doesn’t matter anyway.
You shut your bedroom door
Can’t stand a minute more
You walk down the stairs, taking them in pairs
And you strut across the floor.
Backroom
Submitted by wbrown on January 29, 2008 - 23:20.Verse 1:
There was a day when he would say,
don't nothing come without the rain,
This day seems to be without it's shine
Cause baby it comes all the time.
Chorus:
Baby don't it show,
There's a back of the room
That you never would have known about,
if I hadn't shown it to you,
the way back home,
is a slippery path,
what it lacks is a steady past
Goodbye (song in progress)
Submitted by vtmusic_lover on January 16, 2008 - 23:16.Verse 1:
Beautiful Girl
Beautiful Life
Perfect Hair
and Brillent Smile
Running together
you and I
with our feet bare
across the grass
Beautiful Girl
Lover of Life
Everyday was
and adventure.
You had a life
planned out for you
you were gone so soon
How could I have known?
Chorus: Why'd you have to go and leave
me here all alone
How could you leave you family
crying at home
Everyone whose loved someone
knows what its like to lose love
and everone whose ever cared
about another
knows how hard it is
to say
"Goodbye"
Verse 2:
Beautiful Girl
Beautiful Life
wearing a wig
Cause' the kemo took your
Beautiful Hair
but you still had
your beautiful smile
and you had me
Chorus: Why'd you have to go and leave
me here all alone
How could you leave you family
crying at home
Everyone whose loved someone
knows what its like to lose love
and everone whose ever cared
about another
knows how hard it is
to say
"Goodbye"
Verse 3:
Beautiful Girl
What a great life
so sad it had to
end so soon
Now you are up
in heaven above
and I know
you're waiting for me
Chorus (x2): Why'd you have to go and leave
me here all alone
How could you leave you family
crying at home
Everyone whose loved someone
knows what its like to lose love
and everone whose ever cared
about another
knows how hard it is
to say
"Goodbye"

Precarious.

drifting so smoothly,
downwards, fading,
melting intensely,
I was hoping
you could see inside of you...
You're so beautiful
Dangerous,
You were,
so unfamiliar to me,
as you pushed me away.
Your
Voice
Shook.

People claim to see in life,
It's a torture I can't bear.
You're there floating here on your wings,
