Fallen

You're falling so fast
And I can't save you
An angel, my childhood idol
Tumbling from grace to land in a heap
On this mortal ground

How many times have you pulled through?
How many miracles have you worked?

No one's ever thought to save you,
Because saving was not what you needed,
Saving is what you do
Always there, my voice of reason
Sarcastic and egotistical,
But still yourself, my friend

We may have grown apart
But I never thought
That you could
Fall so
far

If you ever need someone
I'll be waiting here
To help you
If I
can

Tiny Terrors

Tiny Terrors

By Courtney Perry
Bellows Falls Union High School, Grade 9

Eight spindly hairy legs
Crawling on the ceiling
While numerous tiny glinting eyes
All focus on the railing;
A slim pale hand is resting there,
The perfect landing pad
The legs swing freely toward the spot
A loud clear scream is heard

“Get it off! Ew! Get it off!”
She shakes her fingers in disgust
Eight furry legs come to rest on the ground
Many glaring eyes glance up in distrust
Such a skittish little girl is she,
Her face could not be whiter
Her friends are laughing long and loud
As she faces off with a tiny spider

Innocent Beginning

Innocent Beginning

By Courtney Perry
Bellows Falls Union High School, Grade 9

“For every new beginning,
There must be an end,
This is inevitable
Though I do not know exactly when,
I do know that it will happen someday, somehow
This beginning will end
I just don’t yet know how.”

You believe so completely
In the words that you say,
I’ve never seen anyone

Glass Divide

Glass Divide

By Courtney Perry
Bellows Falls Union High School, Grade 9

I’m on the outside
Looking in,
The words that I say
Don’t mean anything,
They aren’t enough
To truly describe
This situation.

I cannot know
What it really feels like,
Because I can only watch you
From the other side
Of the glass that will divide
You and I,
Forever.

A Last Time

A Last Time

By Courtney Perry
Bellows Falls Union High School, Grade 9

There is a last time for everything,
A last time for everything and nothing will ever change that

There was a last time for me to see you,
It was the last time I’ll ever see you and nothing can fix that

There is a last time to mourn for what you have lost,

Chatter

"Hey! That's my sister!"
"Omigod, have you heard..."
So many people,
So many words,
"I don't like her outfit"
"What am I s'posed to say?!"
It's amazing how much there is,
That we have to say,
Sputtering, spouting out,
A pure river of words,
Some quiet, some loud,
And many unheard,
Most in meaningless chatter,
There's no doubt about it,
But honestly, how on earth,

Identity

I can be whoever you'd like
Just tell me who it is that you want to be "me"
Give me a face, paint me a mask
Select my personality
And for today that's who I'll be
