Once You Left Us

Once You Left Us

Those who have lost,
Shall not mourn,
But instead remember the pleasant past,
It’s hard,
I realize that now,
Which is why I’m ashamed,
We don’t realize how much life is worth,
Until it’s too late,
And we’ve lost something,
Not just something,
But someone,
It’s hard to think it’s real,
It’s just and ordinary day,
But it’s not,
Things will never be the same,
And the worst,
We can’t go back and change it,
Prevent it from ever happening,
But we shall lay them at rest,
Wishing them peace among the worlds,
Whether it be ours,
Or the dead’s,
We pray for those who have lost,
And for the lost one’s.
May we all find peace happiness.

Clouded Over

Where are you?
he said.
Sometimes, she
hides in her own little cloud
of thoughts and bubbles.
He wonders how she
can see.
Silly boy,
I have eyes.
he insisted
on a metaphorical
meaning.

oh.

in my own little cloud,
i'm always lost.

leabee's picture

A night without light.

It was dark, and depessing.
The night was lost, or so we thought.
A sudden crop of smiles, miniature full moons,
fell into the nearly full shadow on all those faces.
A sudden drowning occured, a drowning of
anguish, fear, and pain.
We were done trying to seek the unknown, the
unseen, and the unheard.
we were just done feeling all the same.

Week 14: Lost & Found -- Bergeron

I’m lost!
By Greg Bergeron

Woodstock Union High School, Grade 12

What is my
goal in life?
Scrabbling for
Handholds, slippery
with sweat, blood and
tears of failed
ambitions, and dried
up hopes?

Dreamsprite's picture

Over again

I thought you were mine.
Mine for the taking,
Mine for the loving,
Mine for the smothering,
Mine for the holding.

But you slipped away,
Away like a bird you flew,
Away like a kite that blew,
Away like a song of blue,
Away like a lie concealed by truth.

What have I done?
Over and over again.
I speak nothing but you.
A subject in the making.
I can feel my heart aching.

Week 14: Lost & Found -- Reber

Into the woods
By Charlotte Reber

Lamoille Union High School, Grade 10

I’m lost somewhere, I don’t know how.
But the forest knows exactly where I am.
Everywhere around me are the trees,
Silently watching my wandering path.
I’d feel alone,
But there’s no such thing as silence in the woods.

Week 14: Lost & Found -- Griffin

I’m lost!
By Mary Griffin

Woodstock Union High School, Grade 10

Everything’s fine
No need to stare
No need to worry
No need to care.

Of fluorescent light
On short gray ticking
And linoleum white.

Week 14: Lost & Found -- Twitchell

Getting un-lost

Hearing noises in the distance,
I see the sun going down,
Darkness is coming fast,

I’m lost!
By Kimberly Barr

I am gone
Among strange people

Week 14: Lost & Found -- Thompson

A friend lost
By Lauren Thompson

Rochester High School, Grade 10

Out of nowhere he left and took my heart with him
Sorrow comes to my mind when I hear his name
Trying to forget what happened is not an easy thing.
When I went to his grave I lost all my thoughts
even my breath, but I thought of him
Inside I know he is never coming back
but it’s hard to take it all in

By Ashlin Ballif

Stepping through the wide-rimmed forest
Heart beating fast

each step you take.
Your breath is hoarse
Your legs sprint across,
the twig and dirt ocean.

Week 14: Lost & Found -- Horgan

I’m lost!
By Heather Horgan

Lake Region Union High School, Grade 12

My grandfather and I were very close, and although I was only 9 years old when he passed away, I still have many memories of him. My grandfather and I used to spend a lot of time together. We spent summers going fishing, going to Santa’s Village, swimming; we spent every Christmas together.

Week 14: Lost & Found -- Bowman

Ancient findings
By Montana Bowman

Rochester School, Grade 8

Finding is a big part of my life.

I am a collector of almost anything old. Most of the things that I collect are things that are found, such as license plates, hubcaps, and old bottles. So when I started going on archeological surveys/digs I felt that this is right up my alley. Archeology is basically the job of finding things. It was on one of these surveys in the Colorado Rockies that we found something good enough to get us into the Archeological Digest.

Week 14: Lost & Found -- Mongeur

Lost friend
By Vanessa Mongeur

Rochester School, Grade 10

I never knew what I had until I lost you.
You were my best friend,
And you meant the world to me.

But you never did.
I stayed up every night in my room,
And just cried for hours.
Thinking about how you used to come in my room,

Week 14: Lost & Found -- Waite

Where am I?
By Alicia Waite

Rochester Middle School, Grade 8

Where am I? I thought, as my eyes searched through my surroundings for something familiar. My heart began beating faster and faster at the thought of being lost. I tried to remember what had happened, why I might be here, or what could have brought me here, but I couldn’t remember anything. I traced my mind for the smallest detail that might lead to a clue as to why I was here, but I couldn’t find anything.

Nicky and Me
By Jessica Barnett

Essex Middle School, Grade 6

“She has cancer.”

That was all I heard come out of my mom’s mouth. She kept on talking about all the tests and how sorry she was, but I was just in shock. How could this happen? Nicky must have been the healthiest dog around, and now she had cancer. I could tell she was getting skinnier by the day, but I didn’t want to believe it. I took out my video camera I got last Christmas, and I went out to find Nicky.

Week 14: Lost & Found: Lam

That strange fly
By Nina Lam

Brewster-Pierce Memorial School, Grade 4

You’ll never guess what happened at school the other day!

I was in gym class and it was early morning. I heard a noise kind of like this: BBBBbbbbbbbbzzzzzzz! And a small creature fell right in front of where I was sitting. It was upside-down and squirming like anything! I gasped softly. It was a fly! I had to pick it up. So I did. I slowly put my finger down so the very tip of it touched the fly’s black, thin, squirming legs. It tickled my finger so that I almost laughed out loud. Then a funny thing happened; my gym teacher turned around and there sitting on my finger was a fly!

Week 14: Lost & Found: Danielle

I’m lost!
By Danielle Caputo

Walden School, Grade 8

I am lost, running… what I have lost, I do not know. It is important, that I do know. My memory is jogged, jotted with black splotches. I cannot see the item that I have lost. I know its there, I can feel it. It is calling to me, screaming to me.

I run to the wall, running my hands over the sharp … glass? The wall is made of jagged, broken glass, cutting into my fingers so painfully. The item could not be here; I would know if it were. Right? Wouldn’t I know?

Week 14: Lost & Found -- Perkins

Losing grandma
By Maddy Perkins

South Royalton School, Grade 8

It started out as the best day ever; I remember it like it was yesterday.

My mom, dad and I were living with my grandma and papa. Max wasn’t born yet. I would lay down next to my grandma in her special bed she had in the living room. She liked it when I read to her. Well I couldn’t really read so I made up stories; I was only three. She didn’t look sick to me, but I would find my papa on the couch crying. So I sat in his lap and leaned up against him. I didn’t want to see him cry.

Week 14: Lost & Found -- Cruikshank

Why linger?
By Sierra Cruikshank

Rochester School, Grade 8

A loss hurts
A hole in our hearts
Not a pricked finger
Not a demanded no
Our souls tend to linger
But we shouldn’t wallow
You know you have to try again
So go ahead take another swallow

Week 14: Lost & Found -- Drouin

Where am I?
By Kylie Drouin

South Burlington High School, Grade 11

Where am I?
How did I get here?
Panicking now
