Sibling Rivalry

Fake Hate

The little things,
set us off to the top,
we yell,
scream,
even hit sometimes,
we get so mad we say things we don't mean,
aweful things,
we say things that are so bad
I wont repeat them,
My goal was never to hurt his feelings,
that was the last thing on my mind,
I love him with my heart,
He's such a good boy,
but sometimes he can be a pain,
we fight,
yes,
but what happens at the end of the fight
is worse then the fight,
at the end I hear the sentence I don't want to hear,
he looks at me with a sad expression,
he doesn't yell anymore,
he's calm,
like he's facing reality,
"You just hate me, like everyone else."
he says to me,
My feet stop dead in their tracks,
The reality of what he said hurts so much worse then the fight,
more then the bruses,
and scars,
I have to talk to him,
fix it,
I tell myself that I have to change,
I can't yell at him,
I can't fight with him,
he's such a good boy,
so sweet,
he's kind and carring,
and everything a man should be,
He has a family that loves him,
and a sister that would do anything for him,
he needs to know that,
he has to see it,
I love him more then words can say,
and he needs to know that!

Me Vs. My Brother

Me vs. My Brother

My brother is a big, fat, ugly jerk. He’s eleven years old, about four feet nine inches tall, and he’s in seventh grade. His name is Jake. He and I are twenty-one months apart. My brother and I always compete against each other in many different ways. We each have our strengths and weaknesses.

Brother against Brother

Brother against Brother by, Dakota Plisko grade5 Fairfield Center School I’ve been in many fights with my brother but none like this one. He was being mean to me like always so one day on the bus in September he took my little brother and threw him over the seat me and him were sitting in so he punches me and then shoves me so he sat with me and were supposed to be apart.

Sibling Rivalry

Mom loves me more
No that’s not true
This fight is nothing new
I got a B
But I got an A
Whose better I cannot say
I scored a goal
I made a catch
Success I cannot match

The rivalry it never stops
The fighting is ongoing
We strive to win and be the best
But neither is unknowing
On and on it will prevail
As older and older we grow
It will not stop nor ever end

Sibling rivalry

By Lily Schmoker
Williston Central School, Grade 5

I see T.J. reading. I ask him if he wants to play.
He says, “Maybe.” I beg, “Please, please, please, please.”
He finally says yes.
T.J. and I start to play. We’re having lots of fun.
He tickles me, and I laugh very hard.
It’s fun or a while, but then he was doing it too much.
I’m still laughing when I ask T.J. to stop.

Sibling Rivalry Leads to Double Trouble (A True Story)

Sibling Rivalry Leads to Double Trouble (A True Story)

By Jared Keyes
Charlotte Central School, Grade 7

Many families with children have to deal with sibling rivalry. In my family you would think it would be particularly true because I am a twin. My brother is not only the same age but he looks exactly like me. I could tell you twin stories- like when we switched places in school on April Fool’s Day and see who could fool his teacher the longest. (The teachers are still talking about that one!) But my family has a favorite story.

Sibling Rivalry

Sibling Rivalry

By Mindy Yeung
Hartford Memorial Middle School, Grade 8

I know that we may not get along,
But I still love you,
Even if you locked me in the attic for five hours

I know that we fight a lot,
But I’ll still let you win the argument
Even if the statement is unbelievably false

I know the look in your eyes,
When everything is wrong,

Prince

Prince

By Rebecca White
Hartford Memorial Middle School, Grade 8

Being a prince is hard enough, especially when you one of eight brothers. Yes, you can have fancy robes and your bed is always made for you. Your hair is slicked back in tight lace ribbons by a maid whose only job is your wardrobe. It may seem like a life of luxury and extravagance, but it is more a cruel joke for outsiders.

Sibling Rivalry

Arguments and Fights
Needing a Resolution
Let It Rest for Now

Siblings

By Henry Farrand
Woodstock Union High School, Grade 10

A sister, a brother
And me as the other
They much younger than me
There is a line that you can clearly see
I am older,
They are younger
But that doesn’t stop
These fights that we may opt
It begins with a simple remark
Then we begin to embark
Into a rampage of anger and dismay
I just want to say
“Stay away!”

My Sister and Me

There’s that little person
You know the one I’m talking about?
The follower, the mimic, that one
The younger one…

Downsyndrom, her battle
I “fight” it with her, but how I don’t know
It is a constant in my life
I could never tell the difference, because I don’t know anything else.
What would my life be like if she had been “normal”?

Younger Sisters

Younger sisters, what a torment!
Ongoing jabbering, will she ever shut up?
Uncompromising to anyone or anything
No more peace and quiet
Grooming is not in her vocabulary
Efforts to try to get along- a complete waste of time
Rejecting my apology

Stealing the clicker, turning up the music too loud
Insisting that she didn’t do it
Screaming and crying until she gets her way

Every Time

Every Time

By Sam Stockwell
Woodstock Union High School, Grade 10

Every time,
Every stinkin’ time
He beats me.
Basketball is my sport,
I think I’m ready,
I think I’m on fire,
And every time
He beats me.
I’m ready to play
I practice
I hone my skills
I run through my moves
I go over my gameplan,
But everytime it doesn’t matter.
Every time he beats me

A Constant Struggle

“Me first”
“mom she’s going through my stuff”
“dad she’s annoying me”
All common phrases in my house

Brother VS Brother

By Phillip James Parish
Rochester High School, Grade 9

Looking through a book with a thousand pictures in it
the very last page there is finally one with
a kid named pj in it
it looks so tiny there in the middle
just a little picture of me yet he is still
right there making me feel so little
look at him just sitting there in his glory
smiling and making me look so annoying

Suffering in the Silence

This is about my autistic brother

By Hugh Garrett Randall
Rochester High School, Grade 10

Living, breathing, seeing, being.
You are always there with a physical appearance and a smile
But you say nothing.
On and on you stare as each day goes by.
What are you thinking about?
You are living, I feel you.
I hear your cries; I feel the walls and the floor as they shake.
No one knows your pain, not even me.
And I’ve known you for 14 years.
I wish I could let you know it’s alright.
That you have a family that loves you,
Friends that would stick by you through anything.
But you don’t understand.
My efforts to communicate are disastrous.
I talk, but then anger takes over.
And I do things I wish I could take back.
Could you ever find the words to forgive me?
My efforts amount to nothing, and violence fills the empty void.
The harder I try the more I hurt you and the people around me
Then their efforts amount to nothing.
So the cycle goes on.

Siblings, Not Rivals

By Halley Peterson
Woodstock Union High School, Grade 10

My brother and I,
We don’t compete
He has his world
And I have mine
They never seem to overlap
A savior to us both

For since we never need compete
In school or sports
The outdoors or first aid
We always seem to get along
And enjoy the time we spend
With one another.

Sibling Rivalry

By Sara Cook
Rice Memorial High School

With the youngest it is tough
With having older sibling it may get rough
You are not allowed to have food when your siblings are eating fluff
If eat too much you get stuffed

Sibling Competition

My brother and I do things together,
And when we play we try to win.
We play video games, sports and more,
And always become competitive.
Most of our fights are caused by this
Because we’re both sore losers.
We turn everything into a competition,
Just for the sake of competing.
And even though it’s hard to admit,
Sometimes I do feel,
I’d rather play and lose to my brother

And you thought your life was ugh!

By Eden Hubert
Dover Elementary School, Grade 5

Toys break, DVD's snap, and kids shout. Why oes this always happen to me? I mean, sure I know, siblings fight. All the time. They steal clothes. All the time. But, when you say "all the time" you mean it as an excpretion, right? I mean it, litteraly. Here is my daily schedule(litteraly):

Siblings - an Older Sister

By Sierra Cruikshank
Rochester High School, Grade 9

Living up to someone's standards
never quite struck gold
someone else who came before you
living life so bold
my tears have dripped for many reasons
I could never hold
people think of me like her
for certain traits I've sold
We may have certain genes alike
such as eyes and hair I'm told

A nightmare of embarassment

A Nightmare of Embarrassment
By Kierstan Merrill
Rochester High School, Grade 9

Have you ever done something completely embarrassing and you just wish everyone would stop starring at you? I have. It wasn’t even my fault. It was my sister’s fault. We were waiting in line to get on the ski lift and my sister always gets nervous about everyone watching her.

cookie

You go for a cookie
But it a big mistake
For the cookie you wish to take is wanted
Not only by you but your younger sibling to
Almost as if she had a second wing,
She takes the cookie
You fight and argue over who had it first,
Untill the burst into anger
When your mom come in and takes the cookie
Then its a whole new problem
Finally you say you will solve the problem.

Sibling Rivalry

Well for being so close in age. Being Close in age means that there is definitely rivalry. I have two siblings and older brother we are two years apart and a younger sister who is 4 years apart. I am most competitive with my older brother because we are so close in age. This has started ever since we were little. Now a day it is different because we are in the same school.
