That Day
Submitted by toodlesnoodles on April 29, 2008 - 18:55.I remember it as a nippy fall day – November in Brooklyn.
Only about fifteen, I sat solemnly on the sidewalk.
The leaves plummeted towards the earth,
their once vibrant colors faded into the wind.
Just as the leaves fell of those trees,
I left childhood behind; I went from an innocent little girl, to a love-struck woman.
Usually kids scattered the streets at this time of day, but I could only see one;
a boy of about sixteen sat on his stoop as he gazed into the street, expressionless.
His hair looked to be blonde and shaggy,
while his face seemed to be very defined;
his eyes a deep blue, and his skin a golden tan.
He wore faded blue jeans with a hole on the left knee and a plain white tee shirt.
Out of curiosity, I hoisted myself up and started to approach him;
I lightly stepped onto the dark pavement.
I inched slowly towards him,
then quickened my pace, a jittery feeling in the pit of my stomach.
He must have seen me from the corner of his eye, because he dragged himself up from his seat and started to march towards me.
I wanted to turn back, but my feet stayed put like they were glued to the pavement.
I could feel myself drain of color;
my heart raced…
THUMP! THUMP! THUMP!
As he halted in front of me he said cautiously, “Is there a reason why you have been staring at me?”
THUMP!
I, taken aback, began to stutter…
“Uh, I…no I mean you…uh…no…”
He must have realized how tense I was because he grinned and stammered,
“Uh…my name’s Brian by the way.”
THUMP!
I blushed as red as a rose and told him my name as well.
We strolled over to his stoop and sat down;
we talked for what seemed like forever, and gazed intently into each other’s eyes the whole time.
I felt so comfortable as I talked to him; like I had known him my whole life.
THUMP…thump…thump…thump…thump…
Until that day I had never believed in love at first sight;
I thought it could never happen, especially to me.

Tap tap tap,
my pencil slid across my paper.
Tippity tap,
it felt like an earthquake.
Stomp stomp,
Was it ever going to end?
Tap tap tap,
It echoed throughout the room, bouncing off the walls.
Tippity tap,
It was like a constant irritating sound that was never going to go away!
My Day at the Farm

The grass glowed a lucious green,
the sky a vibrant blue.
The sun shined brightly,
it was the perfect day to go to the farm.
We pulled into the gravel driveway;
pigs, ducks, and bunnies in sight.
I ran out of the car,
it was time to explore.
The duck pen was first;
feathers were everywhere!
On the ducks, on the ground, in the sky;

8:10.
It smelled as if something had died in the room;
I did all I could to keep from throwing up.
All I could hear – the sound of scribbling pencils
There was not one person in the room, besides me, who was not writing.
I felt like an idiot.
8:30.

I walked into the gym, unaware of the events to come.
It smelled a bit like sweat; my guess from the previous game.
My heart raced, my hands shook, and my stomach was full of knots.
I dropped my bag with a thud, and quickly put on my sneakers;
hopelessly awaiting the buzzer to ease the tension.
