Vermont: The Best State in America

Vermont: The Best State in America

Vermont is a great, truly unique state. It is of the greatest in my opinion. I cannot think of any other state like it; whether it is spring, summer, winter, or fall, there is no dull season in Vermont. There is always something to do, always a hobby to take up, or sport to play. There are so many activities to choose from. Although, almost every sport in Vermont is fun, my personal favorite is skiing.
Skiing is one of the most popular sports in Vermont. There are very few people I have met that don’t either ski or snowboard. I have been skiing for about six years now and Stowe is my home mountain. Every chance I get I am up there. There is nothing better than getting onto the lift, with the wind in your face, and breathing in the cool crisp air at the top.

The Mega Awesome Water-Pipe Gap

I woke one saturday morning and decided that I was going snowboarding. It was spring riding weather so I threw on a pair of jeans and my tall tee and set off for the mountain. When I got there I decided I was going to ride park for the day and try to meet up with some people from my class. The park was sick so I rode park for a little while, then, as I was riding up the summit chair-lift at Mt. Snow, I saw something that I hadn’t noticed when I was going up the lift earlier, I saw this gap in the trees between two trails. There were two pipes side by side, then about ten feet of grassy hill below them, and one of the trails was a little higher than the other one. I thought, that is an awesome spot to build a jump, there was even a decent landing. I could go off the jump, over the pipes down the bank and onto the trail below. I rode down to this spot and started to build it. After working on it for about forty-five minutes I had built a pretty decent jump. I was getting much applause from the chair-lift while I built it, even some of the Mt. Snow employees were applauding me. While I built it, I wondered what ski patrol would do about it, if they caught me building this would they just ask me to stop, or would they pull my pass?

POWDER!!!

If you ski or snowboard you would understand the significance of riding powder. Riding powder is like, third on my list of favorite types of terrain to ride, park and pipe are my two favorites. Living in Southern Vermont, we rarely get to ride powder, unless we go up north to Jay Peak or the likes of that. Or, we could go out West to a real ski resort. That would cost way too much, though.

Snowboarding

I love winter. I love snowboarding. Your first carving turns of the season. Going to the mountains, I think about what I would like to accomplish today. Do I want to ride the trails or the terrain park. Maybe I want to ride powder.

Snowboarding

I zip up my jacket and slip on my boots. I was finely going to learn how to snowboard. I’d been planning for such long time. Zoom! I was off to Middlebury Snow Bowl!

Winter Tale

The winter in Vermont can be harsh, and there are couple of things I like to do. Family in Vermont is important to me, my time in VT is short compared to the other four generations, who have helped to change my life in VT. A perfect day in VT happens in the winter in a little log cabin and this is how it would all play out.

Winter

Winter

So much to do so little time
Ski, Snowboard, Sled just a few of the many things to do
POW a snowball hits my head
POW you land a jump on the ground
SWISH the sound of a sled moving down the hill
The sound of running water
The sign of the end of winter
So sad
