Ode To My Homework

Ode To Homework
Brandon Tieso - Grade 6

Piling up, sheet by sheet
Page by page
Until it reaches the sun
This is homework
Hated by all.

Teachers give it all day
Everyday
It is an addiction
One they can't quit.

Every detail really counts
Can't let a mistake pass
This wicked contraption
Chops down trees
And wastes ink.

Time consuming
Horrible
Awful
This is homework
Hated by all.

Homework.

I've finally completed part of my AP English homework. Now, only two books to read and summarize!

Why don't I feel happier? Ha ha.

Another World

"Becca, I don't like this. Let's go back."

"No. We came this far we're not turning back now."

"But..."

"If you want to leave, Bridget, fine. Go back by yourself. I'm still going."

My Enemy

Hmmmmmm….
I have to face my dreaded enemy…
Today….
Soon…
I don’t want to,
But it’s something I have to do…
I have to once and for all defeat it,
And it’s evil accomplices.
I have to fight as hard as I can,
To get over my cursed foe.
I have to do
My Homework!

Inferno Moderno, Canto XIII

(Ugh. Theatre. It's tragic.

Well, whining aside, life's been busy. Managing my future education, the regional speech competition coming up, and a performance of TS Eliot's Murder in the Cathedral this weekend has soaked up my time, but I just wanted to add this bit to wrap up the story I began as my English assignment.

I came to love my characters and the world I created, and was able to put in a good friend of mine who was subject to the sin described for this circle of Hell.

Enjoy and criticize.

Inferno Moderno, Canto XII

(Alright, new project.

Our English teacher tasked us with an interesting assignment over vacation. She told us to take the two Cantos we had studied in depth during our reading of Dante's first book of the Divine Comedy Trilogy, "Inferno", and modernize them. Being the grim realist (and atheist) I am, I leaped at the chance to give a spin on good ol' Hell.

As most of you probably know, Dante originally wrote the story taking place during the Easter Holiday of 1300, and was guided through the circles of Hell by Virgil, the great Roman poet and author of the "Aenead".

Me, I'm taking this and putting it smack dab in Easter 2007, sending me into the depths of my own idea of the other Kingdom of God with Ernest Hemingway keeping me informed and healthy.

Crazy

Crazy?
What is crazy?
Am I Crazy?

*Cries*
”Just make it go away!”
“What?”
”IT!!!!”
Maybe…
But,
School caused it.
“What is it?!”
”My home work!”
”… Will you calm down? Gosh!”
I am alone now…
In my own little world…
Crazy?
Yes.
I’d call it that.
*Falls onto her pillow and cries herself to sleep.*

Homework

So bad…
I should be doing my homework,
But…
I just can’t.
My focus keeps shifting,
“I’ll do it later!”
I keep telling myself.
Will I?
Will I actually do it later?
I have to.
25% of my grade…
I have to…
But…
There are so much better things I could be doing,
Like writing,
Or listening to music,
Or doing some insanely better thing…

Home Work

Why?
Why is it the way it is?
We rise in the morning to go to school.
We spend hours on end sitting in chairs.
Listening to lectures.
Taking notes.
Lots of worksheets.
Definitely no shortage of busy work.
Then we go to sports.
Really tired now.
Most of my day and most of my energy spent.
I get home, eat dinner.
Now I have to start on more work than I did all day.
