A Different World
Submitted by wiseone mae on November 6, 2008 - 17:37.Charlize steered across the hospital parking lot, stopping for some pedestrians that were crossing. She found a good parking space not far from the entrance, but as had become the ritual, she stopped for a moment to meditate. She thought sadly back to the better times, before Ava’s bad habits had become too inflated and serious. She never had heeded anyone’s advice, and soon she was vanquished, bedridden, and trapped beneath those gaudy sheets in the hospital room. Sighing, she exited the van and walked laboriously toward the entrance. The hospital, despite its peculiar smell, was cosmopolitan, and oddly she was relieved that Ava had made it here, of all places. Lost in thought, she realized she had come to the patient’s room, and quietly opened the door, sliding inside. She looked at Ava’s wan features; Ava’s face so akin to her own. The IV pulsed beside Ava’s bed, transmitting the vital vitamins to her blood.
Moral of a Game
Submitted by Yankeesgirl on November 5, 2008 - 19:39.For years baseball has been part of America, through years of problems baseball has been there and has always survived. It brought kids and adults alike together even if it were only for a few hours to cheer and watch the greatest players of that time. Whether it was Mickey Mantle, Lou Gehrig, Hank Aaron, Joe Jackson, Willie Mays, Jackie Robinson, or Ty Cobb, they came together and played, showed kids and adults why it is that America loves baseball. However, no more is enjoyment and being a good role model the ultimate goal.
BFF

That's what we said
Never going to let this end
That's the promise we made
Nine years ago today
And it got me thinking
Look how much we've changed.
We've laughed
We've cried
We'd give anything
Just for us.
Yet through everything
Life's given us
All the challenges we faced
There's always been us.
All the promises we made
Are still remembered to this day
All the secrets we shared
Are going nowhere.
Everyone thought it wouldn't last
that it would end someday
But there's still
Us.
Just us!
BFFs
Just like we said.
Bulletproof
Submitted by Yankeesgirl on May 2, 2008 - 10:47.Beyond any failures
Until one arrives
Let yourself stand tall
Let it not
Engulf your life
Take what you can get
Prove yourself
Relive the moments
Of being bulletproof
Oh, let yourself error,
For you will grow, after all no one is bulletproof
Dreaming
Submitted by Yankeesgirl on May 1, 2008 - 13:31.In the dark of night
When your head hits that pillow
Your dreams arrive then
And with one single moment
They might just start coming true.
The Old Man

Walking
As the sun begins to set
Down that old dirt road
To walk off the regret of a life unlived.
Safe Place

Running
Racing
Between the trees
No destination
Escaping
No danger
But fear
Of the unsaid
And the said
Two words to
Describe it
The truth.
Then
Crack
A twig snaps
I jump
Awakening
New thoughts
What ifs
And whys
And what now
No longer
Am I sure.
Still running
This time
A destination
The safe place
That has always
Eliminated
Fear
But it’s not
As I remember it.
Now rundown
Helpless
Alone.
I fix it
But it’s not
The same
Something is different
Yet still the same
In a way.
The
What ifs
And whys
And what now
Mostly leave
but still
some linger.
Running
Racing
between the trees
No destination
But I feel free
As free as
One in this
Situation
Could be.
The Wall

One last look
As fear overwhelms me
And then I turn
To face the future
To face the truth
What’s done is done
And there is no changing it.
Now
We speak of it in whispers
among only the closest of friends
Thoughts pound around my head
As a plan begins to form
And still fear courses through my veins
For it is risky
And will change my life forever
Or so it feels.
Friends
whisper in my ear
“It will be OK”
“We’re here for you”
But still I worry
Still that fear looms over me
Swirling around
Always on my mind.
The fear
Dashes in and out
Of my mind
Sticking there
As life moves on
I feel like I am stuck
Waiting for the fear to subside
To know that I am OK.
A wall is inside me now
And doubt and fear
Are what created it
A wall so big and menacing
Not even I
know how to destroy it
A wall created to save me
To guard me from hurt,
And all the emotions
That come with it.
The Remainder
Submitted by Yankeesgirl on March 13, 2008 - 13:26.Two people
Stood facing the other
Both waiting
For the other to speak
2 minutes passing by
And one turns away
As the other is
About to speak
But utters no sound
The chance was lost
For now
And maybe forever
As one moves on
The other is left waiting
Still waiting.

I never thought that,
This would be my life,
Waking up at 5 AM,
And walking down the road,
To another day as a slave,
To the dust,
The pain,
And the fright.
Will I still have all my fingers?
Then I go home,
If you can even call it that,
To get barely enough sleep,
Before I must go back,
