One Last Time

One Last Time

By Melissa Soule
Leland and Gray Union High School, Grade 9

Heartless, souless, icebound goliath,
Careening in blunted peaks towards an unhappily overcast sky,
Fierce, unforgiving winds whip the summit,
Tossing carefully plaited vermillion hair asunder.

A glowing golden sun slowly sets in a graceful arc,
Illuminating every sparkling crystal,

No way will I ever do that again

No Way I Will Ever do That Again

By Katrina Smith
Mt. Abraham Union High School, Grade 7

A Last Time

A Last Time

By Courtney Perry
Bellows Falls Union High School, Grade 9

There is a last time for everything,
A last time for everything and nothing will ever change that

There was a last time for me to see you,
It was the last time I’ll ever see you and nothing can fix that

There is a last time to mourn for what you have lost,

Pride

Pride

By Hugh Garrett Randall
Rochester High School, Grade 10

What we’ve become, what we’ve undone
In times past, from where we started from
We’ve changed together, you and I, as one.

I didn’t know what would happen to us
At sight and thought, the first instinct was lust
But as time passed on, one thing changed; trust.

We stare at each other through longing eyes

Pride

Pride

By Alicia Cerasoli
Hartford Memorial Middle School, Grade 8

I walk, breathless and tired,
over the large hairy green mound.
I stop, stunned.
Baby blue fills my soul,
Recharging my lungs.
Soft cotton clouds reach down,
Inviting me to take a ride.
A green blanket tumbles down the hill
To the valley.
A pond sits at the hill’s feet,
Just dipping its toes in.

Pride

Pride

By Emma Seaver
Hartford Memorial Middle School, Grade 8

Pride can get you into trouble.
If you’re too proud
You could get hurt. Being proud
of acing your science test
and being so proud you can’t
apologize
are two different things.
You ace a science test,
You get a pat on the back.
You can’t say sorry
you get your teeth kicked in.
Pride can be dangerous.

A Mistake

A Mistake

By Gianna Carchia
Woodstock Union High School, Grade 10

Elementary school
We first met
You were nice
I hung out at your house
And you at mine
We shared secrets with each other
We were best friends

Middle school
More people
More friends
Things were different
You were changing so quickly
We weren’t talking much anymore
We were growing apart

The Last Time

The Last Time

By Sarah Andrews
Woodstock Union High School, Grade 10

The last time I talked to you
You slammed the door in to my face
The last time I looked at you
You glared at me with grave despair
The last thing I said to you
Were words of hate and anger
The last time I looked at you
Your face was ugly
Inside and out
The words exchanged between us

Look Back

Look Back

By Bridget Iverson
Mount Mansfield Union High School, Grade 9

Last time I
Looked at you,
Your arms were out
Wide
(I surrender)
And your head
Ducked in
Submission
In the rain.

I walked
Away
Through the water
Streaming down
Telling myself
don't look back don't look back don't
look back.

This is the
Last time.
I swear.

A Dilly of a Dolly

A Dilly of a Dolly

By Emily Patch
Rutland High School, Grade 11

It was a long and tiring night. My mom and I were coming home from a long day at school or in her case work. Our home was being remodeled and the carpets were all up in our living room. All of the furniture was taken out of the living room in anticipation for the new wood floor, and all that remained was plywood for flooring. There was one thing in that room though; a bright red furniture dolly.
The little distraction of the red coming in the door gave me what I thought would be a good idea. I put down my jacket and ran up to it calling my mom over.

You left for the last time

You Left for the Last Time

By Catherine Ingemi
Rochester High School, Grade 10

The last time,
I felt this way,
I was barely alive.

And where,
Were you?
You weren’t here.

The last time,
I felt this way,
I wanted to be dead.

And where,
Were you?
You said you didn’t love me anymore.

The last time,
I felt this way,
I wanted the pain to disappear.

And where,

P.R.I.D.E.

P.R.I.D.E.

By Kyle Messier
Fairfield Center School, Grade 8

Power rushing through my veins
Ready to do whatever it takes
I am ready to step up
Defend my beliefs in
Everything that is right!

The Drive

The Drive

By Evan Doubleday
Woodstock Union High School, Grade 12

Dark as night, smoke fills my eyes
No longer can I take the abuse
Spinning bodies and swerving heads
I cannot see the light
Where does this lead, when will this end
My head turns towards freedom
Away from the leading line
Down the bank and into the stream
Water rushes the pumping iron
But the nature cannot endure

No Going Back

No Going Back

By Kacie Collins
Woodstock Union High School, Grade 10

That is the last time I will ever have that moment.
There is no way to ever go back and relive that time again.
Each second is exactly that- a second in time.
Nothing that is extravagant or rare- just something that happens;
Over and
Over and
Over again.

Pink Pride

Pink Pride

By Heidi Keller
Woodstock Union High School, Grade 10

I was embarrassed
It hurt my pride
Hurt so bad
I thought I had died

Did anyone notice?
Nearly broke down and cried
It all happened Monday
Actually Tuesday, I lied

A bright sunny day
My family went for a ride
Down to the beach
To play in surf and tide

Before we left
In the mirror I spied

El Ultimo Tiempo

El Ultimo Tiempo

By Maddie Gilbert
Woodstock Union High School, Grade 10

Si hubiera sabido
Que ese momento
Fue el último tiempo
Que te vería
Habría pasado un segundo
Más en ese cuarto
Para ver tu cara
Tu sonrisa
Oír tus palabras
Tu risa
Una vez más
Antes que saliera
Nunca sabiendo
Que nunca oiría
Tu voz otra vez.

Te habría preguntado
Sobre tu vida

It Takes Time to Become an Adult

It Takes Time to be an Adult

By Will Roberts
Fairfield Center School, Grade 8

This is the last time
That I shall cry or whine
Or pout or fight or mope and moan
I shall truly be divine

Because that’s what adults are
And I am just a boy
To make this large transition
I must be smart and coy

Too long have I goofed around
Expectations are at hand

Many Times

Many Times

By Isabel Larrow
Fairfield Center School, Grade 8

Many times have I tried
Many times have I failed as well
Many times have I stood up again
But still I fall down in the end

Many times have I resisted
Many times have I sacrificed
Many times have I put others first
But still I have this longing and thirst

Many times have I loved
Many times have I been broken, too
Many times have I started anew
But I am still stuck with you

Many times have I forgiven
Many times have I let this pass
Many times have I said, “I give up”
But this time, it will be the last.

Thats the Last Time I Will Ever

That's the Last Time I Will Ever

By Briana Patten
Mount St. Joseph Academy, Grade 9

I just got back form my basketball game that was two hours away, and after having one sub throughout the whole game, I was wiped out. Annoyingly enough, I had about two hours of homework, and three tests to study for,but I knew there was no way I could think until I got some sleep.

Pride

Pride

By Kyler
Woodstock Union High School, Grade 10

Swallow your pride just suck it in
Do whatever it takes to win
Get up to the line
You know it’s on
You don’t know what you got
Until it’s gone

Don’t do what’s wrong
Do what’s right
If you do what’s right
You’ll win the fight

The Last Time

The Last Time

By John Riker
Mount St. Joseph Academy, Grade 9

This is the last time I will ever Love,
It’s like a glove,
It engulfs you and surrounds you.
It drowns you in a pool with no bottom,
It is cold,
But we keep on stroking and hoping.
But no we keep choking
Love is the boy holding your head under!
At last you give in and you sink,
Sink to the endless depths of love.

Pride

Pride

By Ryan Cassidy
Mount St. Joseph Academy, Grade 9

What kind of pride do you have?
Is it the kind that leaves you feeling good inside?
Or is it the kind that makes you lose your mind?
The kind that puts a smile on your face
Or the kind that leads you to scold everyone in sight
Overall the pride that you have show’s the person who you want to be

Flawed Reflection

Flawed Reflection

By Meghann Dempsey
Rice Memorial High School, Grade 9

Who's that in the reflection staring back?
Surely not me
No, of course not!
That is the face of a liar and coward

Those sagging eyes are not my own
My eyes are bright and send my love
The mirror shows sockets of hateful and judging gazes
They do not belong on my pure face

That big mouth never tasted my jaw
My lips raise people up who are down and do not slander as those do
The mirror shows thin lips that have lied and deceived many
They do not belong on my pure face

That large nose never smelled my food
My nose smells flowers and filters out odors
The mirror shows a nose that sniffs down revenge
No, that would not even fit on my pure face

Those pointy ears never heard my name called
My ears listen to positive messages and God's word
The mirror shows two ears that perk up to gossip
They do not belong on my pure face

Those dirty, stained hands never felt my skin

Being a Fly

Being a Fly

By Brynn Mills
Ferrisburgh Central School, Grade 3

If I was a fly
I’d buzz around
Loop d’loop
I’d fly everywhere
“Buzz-buzz,” I’d say
I’d suck on watermelon
I’d land on peoples’ heads
I could land on ceilings
… Splat!
That is the last time I will ever pretend to be a fly.

The Wisest Child

The Wisest Child

By Hanna Kingston
Mount Mansfield Union High School, Grade 9

The little child with the emerald eyes
He lays in the grass and looks up at the sky
And he sees not the moon nor the stars or the sun
He sees empty space for him to fly

He knows that a star is a great thing to be
But he fears not the others who want destiny
For stars are small and the heavens large

That is the last time I make that mistake...
