To embed Video...
Submitted by ggevalt on Thu, 01/08/2009 - 4:35pm.(Revision III)
If you have made a video that you'd like to share on the site, here are instructions for embedding YouTube, Google and other video.PLEASE REMEMBER what this site's all about -- writing, words, expression. Don't clutter all your fine word work with a bunch of goofy videos. Ask yourself: Does this enhance the art of writing or the discussion of writing?
We've started to glean videos for you on writing. And on events worth writing about, for instance: YWP Inauguration Page To see videos on writing click here or click on the keyword "video" above. Feel free to add some of your own and put video and author in the keywords. Let's see if we can build a cool library of writers talking about writing or reading their own words, etc. Click here to upload your own video.
To insert a video link:
- If you want to direct the reader outside the site to the site where the video is located, simply add the full address including the http:// stuff before the address. When you submit the piece, it will magically turn into a hot link.
To embed the video so that it plays right on your story or comment:
-
1. Using the [ video ] command (no spaces when you are actually doing it. And in example below, I've misspelled vidoe on purpose):
- Copy the exact link to YouTube or Googletube video you want to show.
- Post it this way (making sure you spell video correctly and you have brackets at either end):
- Submit and watch.
OR:
-
2. Insert the embed code.
- Copy the embed link of the video you want to show. Getting the code is a lot easier these days, just look for some link on or near the video that asks "embed?" And then copy it.
- Paste the code into the text of your post. For example:
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.You Tube.com/v/SPECIFIC VIDEO CODE"></param>
<param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param>
<param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param>
<embed src="http://www.You Tube.com/v/SPECIFIC VIDEO CODE" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> - HOWEVER In order to accommodate a bug in Internet Explorer, DELETE everything outside of the <embed> tag. You should be left with something like this:
-
<embed src="http://www.You Tube.com/v/SPECIFIC VIDEO CODE" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed>
- Click submit and watch.
By the way, below is the link MixedMusic posted some time ago that got us going with video. It is great. (And if you click "Read More" before you start it, you'll see the real lyrics to this song by the group The Books.)

Verse 1
Reminiscing,
looking back.
On all the fun,
times we had.
It was fun,
but the end is near.
It's coming fast,
it's coming my dear.
Chorus
Way you were,
way you taught me.
Way we are,
wishing apon that star,
for more.
Verse 2
When I met you,
Video Games
Submitted by Imri Bruck on Thu, 05/14/2009 - 10:57am.I used to play a lot of video games. Sports games, fighting games, fantasy games; you name it I played it. I would sit in my room for hours, just playing video games and staring at my t.v. screen. I have to admit it was pretty fun, competing against the computer or trying to better my score. The way that my fingers glided across the control panel, and the way that the game did what I told it to do gave me a sense of power, virtual power but power nonetheless. Sitting in class all day, thinking about videogames something had to change. They were taking over my life. I had to stop, but it was more difficult than I thought. Kids in my grade were always talking about the new game they had just bought, and it was a crowd that I used to be a part of, but no more. I realized that videogames aren’t real and even though they can be fun, it’s not worth obsessing and waiting all of your time over.

Digital Storytelling
Submitted by ggevalt on Fri, 11/21/2008 - 11:13pm.What is digital storytelling?
Simple: A written narrative with sound. And pictures. And video.
Too often people think of it as a video. And they begin to freak out about not having equipment, not having knowledge. But all of you have photos. Most of you have cameras. All of you know someone who has a digital recorder. All of you can write. And all of you can ask questions.
But first you must imagine the possibilities. Here are some digital stories that are different but are all very easy to execute....

Geof Hewitt on Slam Poetry
Submitted by ggevalt on Thu, 06/05/2008 - 11:16am.Here's a cool video on slam poetry. Geof Hewitt is the Slam Poet Laureate of Vermont, not that there is one but if there was one he'd be the one. Geof is a poet, teacher, trainer and wonderfully cheerful human being. If you hear about any of his slams, go to them. And go armed with a couple of poems.
