Four Years

We haven't seen each other for over a year.
The only thing keeping us together is the few letters we send each other.
Best of friends. Forever. Always.
He left for two years.
I will leave, too. Soon. Very soon.
He gets back in early January.
I might leave before that.
My two years with his two years. Four years.
Four years apart. Far apart.
It is not bad. We know we are doing the right thing.
But for years is a long time. Very long time.
