Endgame!

(Inspired by Hiroshima, the Fallout series, and Trent Reznor's "Year Zero" album.
To be podcasted and turned into a song.
Enjoy.

Keep waiting, maybe the sirens will stop.
This one can’t be real.
Sit in the shelter and let the rumbles rock you to sleep.
Wake up before the others, go outside, see if you can feel.
Watch the sky light up behind the pale glow of radiation.
Hear that microwave’s buzz as the world fries.
Let the burnt skin peel off like paper machè.
Now wonder why you believed the lies.
This is the endgame, family and friends, comrades and compatriots.
This is the end result.
This is the past and future of this human race.
This is the final expression of a collective guilt.
Keep walking, it just keeps getting better.
From this urban frying pan, into the fire.
Structures collapse, both real and imaginary.
Build your infallible forts, find out they’re made of tires.
Watch the dead butterfly crumble into ash.
Hear the screeches, screams, and silence in between.
Eat your dead brother, he’s all that’s left.
Now cry and hide yourself, you can’t bear to be seen.
This is the endgame, enemy and ally, ladies and gents.
This is what we worked so hard towards.
This is the apex of human interaction.
This is when they start handing out awards.
Keep running down burning alleys.
Watch the shadows on the wall.
Feel the charred-black bricks and realize-
Those aren’t shadows at all.
Watch the bombers file away into the horizon.
Hear the crackle and pop of friends in the flame.
Sit ashamed atop an atomized shrine.
Revel in your endgame.

I'd love to hear this. Looking forward to it!
I think my favorite parts are the first (Keep waiting, maybe the sirens will stop...), seventh (Keep running down burning alleys...), and eighth (Watch the bombers file away into the horizon...).
Hm. I guess that's an awful lot of it, isn't it? Ah well. I suppose I just like the piece.
