We live our lives
Hiding our true emotions
Behind words like
“I’m fine,”
And
“It’s okay,”
Never questioning
What’s beneath
The twisted lies and half-truths
Always believing
It’s better like this
Never realizing
The way society taught us
Only breaks us even more.
We haven’t spoken in many months
Yet I’ve known you since I was a year old
We were like stars
We didn’t always see each other
But we were always there for the other
